verity error (-144) - SKIPPING

For no apparent reason, my verity stopped indexing .doc and .pdf files
all of the sudden and I cannot get it to work at all. I have
completely un-installed verity and re-installed, tried different docs
and different versions of docs. It will index .html files. Very
weird. It is like the filters will not work.

Has anyone seen this error before? Any Ideas? Works great on my Dev
Server but will not work on my Prod server.
