running cf 6.1 in rhel es 3 with apache 2.0.48, 2.0.52 and 2.0.53 - apache
stops responging as soon as cold fusion starts. after initial install with
apached started during install cf and apache work directly afterwards to run
initial administration but not after any subsequent restarts of the system or
of apache or cf. cf reports web service not found and apache does not respond
to requests once cf is restarted. apache must be restarted with cf stopped to
resume normal functioning. thank you for any input because this has been
driving me insane 10 hours a day since the 2nd. Mozilla and netscape are the
current clients. thank you.

ps also comes up with unable to open license.properties in the log on each
restart of cf.

:( I applied the suggested configuration the only actual modification was to
the jrunserver.store in adding the proxy server. apache is still uresponsive
and I still have to same error messages in the logs. also found in apache logs:

I recompiled apache, but it has the same effect. I used:
./configure --prefix=/apache2 --enable-usertrack --enable-expires
--enable-ext-filter --with-mpm=prefork --enable-proxy

I still get these problems in the logs

I'm having the same problem with apache 2.0.53 and coldfusion 6.1 update. If
anyone has a work around please share it. I have been pounding my head agains
a wall for the last few days trying to get coldfusion to work.:confused;

I don't know why this works, but it worked for me.

comment out the Serverstore line in httpd.conf. This is sloppy, but it got me
working. If I knew how sloppy this would be I would have done everythin g in
php. I think this will keep the server from reading compiled code, but at
least my web server is finally up to date. Someone tell me if there is a real
fix to this problem.

Here's the steps to configure the webserver manually

thank you for your post todd I will be trying that first thing on monday on our
test system, though I do not believe that it will be successful. Unfortunately
since coldfusion wont work on a supported platform reliably we are looking into
switching platforms. hopefully it will work with some degree of stability on
win 2003, which would be a vast improvement from it's current state considering
our investement in it already. I have manually configured the server a total of
7 times at this point. none of the configuration recomendation from macromedia
in thier documentation that I have managed to find have worked. it will work
one time only after installing it and I don't feel like reinstalling it every
time I need to reboot the computer. none of the problem appears to be in the
configuration. I have installed the compat-lib that it needs, and recompiled
apache with thier suggested arguments all to no avail. I even re configured the
firewall to be sure that the needed ports were open. I have used 4 different
releases of apache which all had no effect.

The problem is not that apache is reading the compiled code, but that apache
terminates, restarts then stops responding as soon as cfmx6.1 starts. it
connects to the web server but then communicatio breaks down. the threads in
apache stop responding so apache terminates them and restarts all of them.from
there I think it may not be correctly coordinating requests to those new
threads. cfmx then resports that there was no web service found because in it's
successfull port connection it is unable to communicate with and identify
apache. Thus it no longer believe that connection to be a web server. I can
restart apache and it will work until I start cfmx. once cfmx has caused the
error in apache it becasue a recurring error with all requests. The browser
locates and connects with the apache port but recieves no replies from apache.
I have tested this low level by connecting a terminal application to the port
and simulating a browser request. The request simply times out. I will post the
data from my test on monday or tuesday here if anyone has any ideas towards it.
We would love not to have to buy win 2003 on top of the cost of cfmx.

todd did have a valid post that helped, slightly. it worked for a single boot, then crashed every following reboot.

unfortunately I have alreay been through the configuration about 8 times now
from the links that keep getting posted but it has had no effect at all, as
previously mentioned. But I do thank you for your post. I do not believe that
there is anything in the configuration documentation that will help me with
this. :(

I'm a bit confused about why the instructions in the following docs are so
different:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?event=view&id=KC.t
n_19575&extid=tn_19575&dialogID=2945786&iterationID=1&sessionID=
4830a643abaa$3F$3F$2&stateID=0%200%202953424&mode=advanced
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/6/Installing_ColdFusion_MX/configuring
4.htm Both docs were mentioned above with regard to manually configuring web
server (Apache in my case). However, they are quite different (specifically
focusing on Apache on Unix). Are these instructions for two different
versions? Also, in step 2 of the first article, is there an error there? I
found it very confusing? It says to create a directory under a path that does
not exist, and it's quite vague. Thanks.
