Characters set problems in MX 6.1

I am using an Oracle 8.16 database and Coldfusion MX 6.1 which displays the
data correctly. The database is using the US7 ASCII Character set. The data
in this Oracle 8.16 database also gets copied to a Oracle 9 database which uses
the ISO-8859-1 Character Set. When viewing a ? sign on the webpage from the
Oracle 8.16 database it displays as a ? but on the Oracle 9 and CFMX it
displays as # Any ideas on how to get around this ? tia Ian
