Dear all:

You are at the end of what we hope has been an instructive and useful two years in the Department, and are facing the last set of goalposts--the final exams and major projects. You must all be busy preparing and completing the last few tasks before the term finally comes to an close and the deadlines are all past you.

Please remember that the end semester examinations are more than a formality. They are meant to help you consolidate your understanding in a particular subject and reflect on the key points you have learned. We expect you to treat the process with respect and integrity. In plain terms, this means that any form of dishonesty will be taken seriously.

While we do not like to exercise undue surveillance in these matters, trusting that students will conduct themselves in an ethical manner, recent behaviour compels us to take a harder approach. If we find that any student has been engaging in what amounts to cheating, he/she will face serious consequences.

We put a lot of thought into planning our courses and setting the finals, and expect that you will put some thought into taking the exam too.
