Hello Macomb resources friends,

I have a senior resident who has an adult son, who is homeless and using substances, along with his minor son who will age into adulthood next week. The senior parent has helped them financially, guided them to McCrest shelter, rehabilitation, and in patient hospitalization, but is at a loss due to both of their unwillingness to stop using. They were living in a storage unit until today, they were asked to leave.

I know that's pretty much all you can do, is give resources and hope they use them. I guess I just wanted to reach out and see if any of you have experience with unhoused individuals in substance use and if theres any recommendations I am missing besides shelters, rehab, or hospitalization. My speciality is seniors, but I still want to give her any guidance I can as this obviously weighs on her as a mother.

Thank you all, have a great weekend!

Greetings, Macomb County Community Mental Health (MCCMH) has a Substance Use Engagement Center. It is not a homeless shelter. If the person is looking to get into treatment for their substance use disorder (SUD), you can have them call the MCCMH Crisis line at 586-307-9100 to complete a screening for the Engagement Center.

Hope this helps!
