Pulling Together to Uplift, Defend & Transform
Social Work Month 2026
As we wrap up Social Work Month, we reaffirm who we are at Harambee Care Services; a community rooted in compassion, cultural humility, and collective care.
Each March, the National Association of Social Workers leads the nation in recognizing the impact of social workers. The 2026 theme, "Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.” captures the heart of this profession.
This theme is not just a slogan; it reflects the work we do every day:
- Uplift - We empower individuals and families to recognize their strength, resilience, and worth.
- Defend - We advocate for equity, dignity, and access to culturally responsive care.
- Transform - We partner with our community to create sustainable pathways toward emotional wellness and stability.
-
Social workers serve on the frontlines in schools, hospitals, community agencies, and private practice but more importantly, they show up where people need them most.
This month, we honor the dedication, advocacy, and quiet strength that define this profession.
How We’re Honoring Social Work Month
As we close out the month, we invite our community to:
- Reflect on the impact of social workers in your life
- Share stories of resilience and growth
- Support organizations committed to justice and wellness
- Practice intentional care for yourself and for others
Stress Management Skill of the Month: Grounding Through the 5-4-3-2-1 Technique
When stress feels overwhelming, one of the simplest ways to regain control is to bring your attention back to the present moment.
Try this grounding exercise:
- 5 things you can see
- 4 things you can feel
- 3 things you can hear
- 2 things you can smell
- 1 thing you can taste
This skill helps calm the nervous system by shifting focus away from stressors and back into the body and environment. It is a quick, effective tool for anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or racing thoughts.
We invite you to liberate yourself from daily stress while enhancing your emotional wellness
March is also Women's History Month, a time to celebrate the contributions, leadership, and resilience of women; especially those who have paved the way in helping professions.
One of the most influential women in social work history is Jane Addams, widely recognized as a founder of the modern social work profession.
As the co-founder of Hull House in Chicago, Jane Addams created a space dedicated to supporting immigrants and underserved communities through education, childcare, and social services. Her work was rooted in compassion, social justice, and the belief that communities thrive when people come together to support one another.
Her legacy reminds us that:
- Advocacy is powerful
- Community-centered care creates lasting change
- Women have always been at the forefront of social transformation
-
We continue to build on this foundation by uplifting and empowering women in our community; honoring their stories, their strength, and their healing journeys.
Our Commitment at Harambee Care Services
“Harambee” means pulling together and that spirit guides everything we do.
Our mission remains clear:
To offer accessible, compassionate, and culturally sensitive emotional wellness support while recognizing the vital connection between stress and overall well-being.
This month, we celebrate not only the profession of social work, but the collective power of community care. Healing does not happen in isolation. Growth does not happen without support. Transformation does not happen without advocacy.
We believe:
- Wellness is a community responsibility.
- Advocacy is an act of love.
- Cultural sensitivity is essential, not optional.
- Every individual deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported.
- Stress liberation is essential to healing and well-being.
