help for utility startup, internet

Good afternoon,

I have a client who is a single hard working mom who moving out of a doubling up situation and into her own condo next month.  The family qualifies for Medicaid.  Is there any help for costs for turning on utilities or internet discounts that anyone knows of?

at&t and Xfinity both have low income plans for internet.  I think they are $10-$20 a month.  For utilities, she shouldn't need to pay just to turn them on unless she has an old bill in her name.

For water, she can apply for the WRAP program.  See attached.

[Edleston, Holly (DHHS)]

If she does have an old bill in her name, she can apply for an SER with DHHS to assist with the old bill. She will need something from the utility company stating the amount needed on the old bill to connect services to her new address as well as something from the landlord showing that the utility is required to be in her name at the new place.

 

She can also call 2-1-1 they have several utility assistance programs they may be able to help her
