Low cost and pro bono resources for legal services and adoptions:

Try these suggestions:

Michigan Adoption Legal Resources
Several organizations in Michigan provide free (pro bono) or low-cost legal assistance for adoption and family law matters to low-income residents and seniors. These resources range from full direct representation to reduced-fee consultations and self-help tools.
Nonprofit legal aid firms offer free advice and representation to residents who meet specific income and asset guidelines.
Lakeshore Legal Aid: Provides free direct representation in family law throughout Southeast Michigan and the Thumb, with an attorney-staffed hotline for the rest of the state.
Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD): Serves residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties with comprehensive civil legal services.
Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM): A nonprofit law firm providing free advice and representation in family matters across West Michigan.
Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM): Offers free representation in 13 counties, including Ingham, Washtenaw, and Jackson.
William Booth Legal Aid Clinic: Operated by the Salvation Army, this clinic provides free legal services to low-income families and veterans in Detroit and Pontiac.
High-quality legal services at no cost to those at or below poverty guidelines in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
Assists low-income Wayne County residents with family law and elder law issues.
Provides free civil legal assistance to low-income clients across Genesee and surrounding counties.
Additional Financial Assistance
  • Adoption Subsidy Reimbursement: Prospective parents may be eligible for reimbursement of nonrecurring adoption expenses, such as court fees (typically $150–$170) and birth certificate fees ($50 in Michigan), if the child is eligible through the state's adoption subsidy program.
  • MDHHS Adoption Assistance: The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services provides state-funded assistance for children who meet special needs criteria.
