Greetings,
I hope everyone is doing as well as possible these days. I'm writing to let you know about a couple of programs the National Kidney Foundation of MI is offering that may be of valuable to your organization and the people you serve.
The purpose of these programs is not only to share practical and realistic tips, while sharing time and space in community and comradery during these exceptionally stressful and isolating times.
Programs are offered in-person and virtually over Zoom.
I've also attached flyers in addition to the blurbs below.
Cooking Matters at the Store is a one-time, 1-hour workshop during which we discuss how to prioritize healthy grocery shopping on a budget. Discussion includes MyPlate food groups, how to read food
labels and compare unit prices, and how to be an overall more informed consumer when grocery shopping.
Participants each receive a booklet and other printed tips and resources, re-usable shopping bag, and $10 gift card to a grocery store.
Food Smarts Waste Reduction focuses on building knowledge and skills to save money by minimizing food waste. Workshops can be a stand-alone lesson, or they can be a series of 2-3 lessons.
Lessons include:
1. How to stretch produce and reuse food scraps and leftover foods
2. Food storage and preservation techniques
3. Composting and how to decode use by and sell by dates
Please let me know if you're interested or would like to learn more! ☺️
Warmly,
Jessie Finkiewicz (She/Her/Hers)
