Dear MFN Member,
When the MFN Board met this summer, members agreed that it would be a good idea to participate in the annual First Responders Day (FRD). Some of you are familiar with FRD and have volunteered in the past. Because I'm part of the Youth Task Force and responsible for recruiting volunteers to help with this, I'm sending this letter to you. If you are available and want to volunteer, let me know. Thanks, Janice
I am writing as a member of the Youth Task Force, a subcommittee of Macomb's Quality of Life Committee.
The Task Force is preparing for this year's First Responders Day and is contacting several organizations to ask if some of their members can help with it. It's an event that is popular with students and enjoyable for volunteers.
This year's First Responders Day will be held in Chandler Park from 8:30 to 11:30 on Friday September 12. We will need 20 volunteers each hour between 8:00 and Noon. Ideally volunteers would be on hand for a two-hour shift, but we will welcome volunteers for one-hour shifts as well. Volunteers will primarily work at the first responder stations helping with marking passports, talking with students while they wait for their turn with the first responder, and directing groups to their next station. Volunteers will receive an orientation upon arrival for their shift on the event day.
We are preparing for about 750 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders from West Prairie North & South; Bushnell-Prairie City; Lincoln, Edison, and St. Paul schools. They will be visiting approximately ten first-responder stations (from police and fire departments to 911 Dispatch). Each will receive a "passport" that a volunteer at each responder station will mark to verify their visit. They will also have a chance to pick up a snack at the park. Their arrival times will be staggered throughout the morning.
If you wish to volunteer, please send me your name, email address, and the time you will be available to help by Thursday, August 29. You will receive an email confirmation, and volunteer instructions will be emailed the week prior to the event. We hope you can arrive about ten minutes early to pick up a lanyard and your specific station assignment.
Thanks very much for helping with this. We appreciate your interest and support.
Best wishes,
Janice Welsch
Youth Task Force Member
