Genealogy used to be a very serious study, where academics researched
past family trees and filed endless papers and scripts. Now however
researching your family tree and the very term itself "genealogy" has
taken on a whole new meaning.   With the rise of the internet and
efficient research and documentation tools this old past time is
Turing into a fun new hobby for young and old.   It is great that
genealogy is taking on new role in society and why not? One can learn
about themselves by looking at who has gone before them. The path to
self discovery for many is being answered through simple research of
their family tree.   Modern technology has made this research
much easier with increased computer power and the ability to access
large amounts of stored data quickly, it used to take weeks if not
months of years to even start the research of your family tree but now
all you need is an internet connection.   The best place to start
for any aspiring genealogy researcher is to find the genealogy
software that is right for them. There are a few different options out
there to choose from and you need to pick one that will perform the
sort of research that suits you. For example if you do not live in the
US then a software that searches just in the us will be of no use to
you. The novice genealogy researcher could easily make this mistake if
they were unprepared. Good search tools are ideal when you are on the
search for our ancestry.     Gathering the necessary data is
then followed by the often tedious organisation of names etc. The
software should provide you with very good organisation of the
researched results. What I like about some of the tools out there is
the great charts, graphs and tables that you can then quickly and
easily insert your researched results into. This would take you days
if you were to do it unaided.   Use these guidelines to
search for the best genealogy software available:

Support and Documentation. FAQ should always be provided with
excellent technical support. Also tutorials for beginners is
essential.
Set up and Installation. Is the program easy to set up and install? If
the software is to technical to even set up how do you think the
researching will go for you?
Features. A feature rich software helps with tolls such as a family
tree with charts and reports, web access and support as well as
storage capability.
Final Product.  The final product should be easily tabulated and
printed off. If many complex steps are required to simply produce a
graph then give it a miss.
