to Machinekit
I'm upgrading my mill setup.  I've been running GRBL on an Arduino, but wanted to step up to a little more powerful control program with more options.  Machine kit seemed like a perfect fit.  I am however struggling with getting it going.  I'm attempting to use Probotix's PBX-BB configuration.  I've tried bothe the PRU and GPIO options.  I'm running a BBB rev2, with the Machinekit image, with HDMI and Audio disabled.  I've tried it with the monitor locally and SSH tunneling in to the BBB.

I seem to be stuck on loading the overlay.  Below is the error dump and linuxcnc.log files.

If anyone has some insight I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Where are you getting the PBX-BB configuration? IIRC it's not part of
the default Machinekit packages. The error indicates it can't find
the overlay, which means you will probably need to copy the overlay to
/lib/firmware.

...or use the Probotix configs that come with Machinekit and (should)
work as-is. They can be found in configs/ARM/BeagleBone/Probotix and
use the cape-universal overlay rather than the PBX-BB overlay.

I'm using the config from Probotix site.  Found here:

I have also tried the Probotix comet config that comes with the Machinekit distro.  I've seen the cape-universal overlay mentioned in a few thread on the PBX-BB.  I found your Git-Hub page on it, but I'm not sure how to integrate it into the hal or ini file.

Thanks.

I thought so. AFAIK, that configuration hasn't been updated in a
while. It should still work, but relies on the custom device tree
overlay. If you want to use this, copy the *.dtbo file to
/lib/firmware and it should load.

The cape-universal overly has been a standard part of (pretty much)
all BBB uSD images for quite some time. So all you have to do is load
it, then use the config-pin utility to configure the I/O you want to
use. This is typically handled in a startup script launched early in
the HAL file:

# Launching the setup.sh file from HAL and waiting for it to finish:
https://github.com/machinekit/machinekit/blob/master/configs/ARM/BeagleBone/Probotix/Comet.hal#L5

# Loading the required overlay(s)
https://github.com/machinekit/machinekit/blob/master/configs/ARM/BeagleBone/Probotix/setup.sh#L36-L46

# Configuring the I/O pins
https://github.com/machinekit/machinekit/blob/master/configs/ARM/BeagleBone/Probotix/setup.sh#L71-L97
