MRJOB is nearing the next major release, version 0.4. This release includes support for custom jar steps, support for writing jobs in any scripting language, a new system for EMR bootstrapping, revamped documentation, and more To celebrate and move things forward, Yelp is hosting a mrjob hackathon at Yelp HQ in San Francisco on Tuesday, July 31st from 6 PM to 11 PM. We'll eat, chat, and bang out some cool new features!
To participate, all you need is a working knowledge of MapReduce and motivation to do something to mrjob. We do have a few specific things we'd like to accomplish:
* Official support for at least one other scripting language such as Ruby or Perl
* Cook up some new examples to distribute with the source
* Extra love for the normal Hadoop runner
