Greetings,

I just got nuked by 15 Apple Memory Movies, slide shows of  photos and video clips set to music, on my Mac. All were about my three-week, 50 photo/video trip last summer. I have noticed an occasional musical slide show automatically created in the past on my phone but never this many and all at once. I think that they were called Memories before Oct. ’24 and created by AI, but not Apple Intelligence. I have only 96 photos and 9 videos total on my Mac as I use Google Photos for photo backup. I wonder what would have happened if I had a typically large library. I have mixed feelings. In the past, I was pretty positive, but 15 of these in one morning on one subject from a year ago makes me scratch my head. This may be a glitch. I know that I can turn this feature off, but I kinda like it, as long as it doesn’t go exponential zombie on me.

I know that most of you have huge photo libraries on your Macs and I am wondering what your experience has been.

Cheers,

Dennis Kane

On the related subject of managing your huge photo output, especially as camera resolution has increased: I also use Google Photos but everything is auto synced and uploaded through my original Pixel 1. The Pixel 1 came with a promise - which Google has honored - that photos uploaded from it are stored in original quality and they do *not* count toward the space used by Google photos.

There will come a day when the Pixel 1 dies - I've already replaced the battery once -  and I will have to rent more space from Google or setup my own (there's plenty of articles with pros and cons of each choice) but Pixel 1 upload is what I'm doing for now.

Google Photos also occasionally generates "Memories" movies with music, stylized photos, cinematics, etc., but unless you save them, they are not part of your photo storage space.
