try Macaulay2!!  at web.macaulay2.com

We would like to announce the availability of a web interface to Macaulay2, at web.macaulay2.com.  Please try it out, and give us feedback.

NO login is required.  There are several tutorials  at web.macaulay2.com to help learn Macaulay2, and of course you may also run your own Macaulay2 programs.  So far, this web app has been successfully used by students.

This web app runs under safari, firefox and chrome, but not internet explorer.  So far, it has been optimized for desktop computers, not tablets.  It does run on an iPad (although we recommend downloading the chrome browser app, as it has better behavior than mobile safari), but typing input into the iPad version is much better with a separate blue-tooth keyboard.  Android tablets are not yet supported.

This is great!

I'm using firefox-21 on Linux and my keystrokes don't make it to the
grey window. I was under the impression that I can type in the grey
area on the right? Is this supposed to work?

I can run stuff by clicking on "Input", typing things there, and then
sending them over with Shift+Enter. That works.

Let me say again that this is really great.

Cheers,
Thomas

No, input is typed only on the left, and is echoed on the right, along with the output.

You can type into the right now, and use key up and down to browse the command history.

My students and I have not been able to connect to the M2 web server from Austria.  Is web.macaulay2.com working?

I’ll try to restart it today (we just had a pretty good snowstorm!).

Thanks for alerting me to the fact that it is down.  Of course, please always feel free to let me know as soon as it doesn’t work for you!

Best,

Mike

Thanks, Mike. I use M2 on my own laptop so I did not know that it was
down until I tried to help a student.

It should be up and running now. If not, or if it goes down, please let me know! (I don’t always realize it immediately).

Best,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I just tried to load the in-browser version (at http://web.macaulay2.com/) and it doesn't seem to be working (it returned a "connection timed out" error).  Do you know if it's currently up and running?

Thanks so much,
Ralph

Yes, sorry.  We were having ethernet issues.  I think that they are now fixed.

Just a note that it seems to be similarly down again (at least for me):

The unimelb-macaulay2 Macaulay2Web server is down for reasons that are
beyond my control.
Hopefully it will be up again next week, I can keep you updated.
