Sad news

I have some sad news. Dan Grayson passed away peacefully in Henderson, NV, on 28 August 2026.
I will miss him greatly. He was a close friend and long-time collaborator. Dan and I started working together to create Macaulay2 in 1992. The first release was in 1996, and now thousands of papers refer to Macaulay2. He was an incredible force: without him, this project would never have been possible. I learned a large amount from him over the years, from programming to mathematics. I didn’t just learn these from him, I learned how to learn them. His way of approaching problems, both in mathematics and in programming, enabled one to be able to think things out or figure problems out from the basics.
There will be a memorial service in Henderson, NV in mid-October. I will post a link to the obituary once I receive that.
