Greetings,

We are trying to install Macaulay2 in HPC in our institute. However, we are facing a problem installing the software due to the package 'frobby'. They would like to install the software without the package 'frobby.'
We will mainly be using the following functions and the required packages to use these functions:
Packages: "TorAlgebra"; "Depth"
Functions:
"map(Ring,Ring)" "kernel(RingMap)" "trim(Ideal)" "numgens(Ideal)" "dim(Ideal)" "dim(Module)" "isGorenstein(QuotientRing)"
"isGorenstein(Ideal)" "isCM(Module)"
"isCM(Ring)" "print"
I would like to know if not installing the package 'frobby' will affect the use of any of the above functions and the overall functionality of Macaulay2.

Sincerely,
Siddhi Balu Ambhore

Hello,

It's not possible to compile Macaulay2 without libfrobby unless you manually remove it from monomial-ideal.cpp and replace it with other routines. The most important function that uses monomial ideals (and therefore frobby) that I can think of is codim(Module), which is used by several of the functions you listed.

I would suggest opening an issue on Github about the actual issue you're having with frobby, with some information about the operating system and compiler you're using.

Best,
Mahrud
