Hello All,

Please save the date for MACG’s Equity Agenda Lobby Day in Salem, Thursday, May 9th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. As you may know, we will be working on a MACG-wide legislative agenda that includes Latino and health care issues in addition to sentencing reform. The two items below from ROAR’s weekly e-newsletter should be very helpful in preparation for our work that day.

Legislative Updates and A Quick Email From You!
ROAR did a little networking in Salem this past week and came away with one important message: some members of the Legislature are uncommitted with respect to acting on the reforms suggested by the Commission on Public Safety. They say they need to have the support of their county commissioners. So here's what we need: let your county commissioners know that you support the reforms suggested by the Commission on Public Safety and you want them to encourage our legislators to take action! Just a quick email with a link to the Commission's report should do the trick. Find your commissioners here: Multnomah County, Washington County, Clackamas County, Lane County, Marion County, Columbia County. When you write your commissioner why don't you also cc your state rep and senator! This is a nice tie in to PSJ's message below....

Partnership for Safety and Justice Wants You to Act Now: Send a Message to Your Legislator
Oregon Out of Balance is a powerful 5-minute video you probably recall viewing. If not, now's the time to refresh your memory and to ask our legislators to act! The video shows why we urgently need to invest more money into the programs most effective at building safe and healthy communities. Click Act Now and ask your legislators to view Oregon Out of Balance.

Also, we are meeting again tomorrow evening (Tuesday, March 26th, 7-8:30 p.m., Thea Bowman Room, St. Andrew Catholic Church, 806 NE Alberta, 97211).

See you then!

Karen
