sdlxliff <-> xliff ?

Is there a reasonably straightforward way to create "normal" xliff files from a pretranslated sdlxliff ?

I'd like a xliff that has no illegal characters, no skeleton, no non-translatable contents etc. Just the _valid_ translatable contents of the sdlxliff. And a way to process back the translation to deliver a valid sdlxliff.

Ideally the tool should be FLOSS and should be able to easily handle standard file sizes (I have a 19mb file from a DOC 100 pages manual).

Besides for Rainbow (Okapi), what are the options ?

Since sdlxliff is supposed to be a strict superset of xliff, writing
eg a XSL transformation
to make sdlxliff -> xliff conversion should be fairly straightforward.
Going back the
other way might be dicier - I have no idea of the various changes that
SDL has made
to xliff, but Studio should be able to handle the xliff natively.

The problem is that sdlxliff is sometimes not valid XML because it is build with a .NET library that has a bug and put illegal control characters in the file. That is also the case for Trados TMX files.

Also, I am asking that because I don't want to use Studio or anything Windowsy.

I know the Okapi people are planning to work on creating an action the would work around the illegal characters and I am interested in knowing if other tools can do that too.

TMXValidator can remove invalid characters from any XML file, not just TMX documents.

The problem is that when I deliver the sdlxliff file after translation I'd need to put them back.

So I need a way to replace them in a way that I can use to put them back at the end.

Ah. Then you're out of luck for any XSL workflow.
