The Melbourne Anarchist Bookfair is an annual free event created by Melbourne's anarchist community, now in its sixth year. This year, the Bookfair will move to Brunswick Town Hall, 223 Sydney Road, from 10am-5pm.

The Bookfair consists of up to 40 stalls held by independent booksellers and activist groups. Alongside the stalls, there will be workshops and skillshares running all day on a variety of different topics.

Over the past six years, the Melbourne Anarchist Bookfair has gathered hundreds of people from Melbourne and beyond to share ideas, attend workshops and strengthen networks. We hope this year will continue to build on the ideas and networking, and welcome a broader audience and participation. So please get involved and be a part of it!

ETHOS:
The Anarchist Melbourne Bookfair is for a society based on mutual aid and voluntary co-operation – against all forms of government and economic oppression – and we believe everyone should share in the general prosperity. We struggle to break down racial, religious, national and sex barriers, and to fight for a just world without borders.

STALLS:
Over 40 stalls will be available in the main hall. Independent book-sellers, zinesters, activist groups and other radical enterprises promoting their ideas and merchandise are encouraged to participate by booking a stall. Stalls are allocated on a first-come basis, so book in early to save a spot!

- Cost for a stall is $50 each.
- You can also consider sharing a stall with another group or booking half a stall.
- To book, please make a direct deposit into our bank account (details below) and drop us an email at in...@amelbournebookfair.org

Bank: Credit Union of Australia
Name: A Melbourne Events
BSB: 814-282

- Alternately, you may send a cheque payable to A Melbourne Events directly to the bank (CUA, PO Box 100, Brisbane QLD 4001) with our BSB and Account numbers written on the reverse side.
- Note: For groups that are unable to afford the stall fee, we can offer a sliding scale or donation basis instead. Just contact us to discuss.

WORKSHOPS:
In addition to the main hall of stalls, we also run workshops throughout the day in a number of nearby rooms. Groups or individuals with discussion content or skillshares in line with our principles are encouraged to participate by proposing a workshop. Workshops are discussed and agreed on by the collective. Workshops are free but slots often fill up early, so send in your proposal as soon as you can!

CHILDCARE:
There will be a kids’ space - with toys and games for older and supervised kids - where kids can be left with a qualified childcare worker. If possible, let us know how many kids you will be bringing, their ages, and how long you plan to stay. We are also trying to include more kid-friendly workshops and stalls! If you are interested in facilitating a kid-friendly activity at the bookfair, or if you are interested in volunteering for childcare, please write to us at in...@amelbournebookfair.org

ACCESS:
This event is wheelchair accessible. If you would like assistance in making this event more accessible to you, please contact us and we will plan accordingly.

VOLUNTEERS:
We believe that it takes a collective involvement to create and maintain community spaces and events, so please help us share the responsibility of making the Bookfair happen by volunteering! We will need help on the day with setup, door, clean up and childcare, so we ask that everyone attending consider contributing 1 hour of effort to making this event happen.

Anarchist Events Melbourne is a not-for-profit collective of volunteers, and all money received will go directly to venue hire, equipment hire, printing and other costs for this event. We are committed to financial transparency and you can view our past and projected budget and expenses on our website.

The idea for this event came from various Anarchist Bookfairs around the world. Several different cities in various countries host events that unite thousands of politically engaged and radical groups, and have been doing so for almost 30 years. We enjoy being a part of this radical tradition.
