Proposal to raise MABRA race officials pay

Hi all,

We've posted a proposal on the MABRA website from Glenn Stevens on behalf of Western Howard County Cycling to raise race official pay at MABRA events starting next year: https://www.mabra.org/post/proposal-to-increase-race-official-pay-in-mabra 

The MABRA Board strongly endorses this proposal and urges Class A member clubs to approve it at the 2026 Annual Meeting on January 11. Between now and then, we ask that MABRA clubs discuss the proposal internally and make plans to send a representative to the annual meeting to vote.

As the proposal describes, USAC’s guidance on official pay has not changed since 2019 despite very significant inflation, pushing pay for some officials below the Maryland minimum wage. MABRA has been very fortunate to have a great & dedicated group of officials providing our community with smooth, safe, and fair operation of our events over the years. We want to do our best to ensure this continues and believe this modest pay bump, if approved, would be a helpful step in that direction. While it would raise costs somewhat for race promoters, MABRA would also provide subsidies to help mitigate the financial impact over the next two years.

Please share this proposal within your club and your club leadership as I know not everyone receives the listserv e-mails.

As a first-time promoter, I was astounded at the low pay for officials, but also understood it was love of the sport.  I have no doubt Baltimore Bike Works Racing will support this increase.
