Hi all,

Please mark your calendars for the MABRA Annual Meeting on January 11. Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate, but we especially request attendance from leaders of all MABRA clubs (or their designates) and race directors for MABRA events.

In addition, nominations are open until December 19 for four positions on the MABRA Board of Directors. Two of these positions will be elected by member clubs at the annual meeting. The other two positions–the rider’s representative and women’s representative–will be voted on by eligible MABRA riders ahead of the annual meeting.

Finally, MABRA is seeking volunteers for road coordinator as well as for the new position of social media coordinator. Please consider putting yourself forward for these roles! They are a great opportunity to work with other Board members, clubs, officials, and race directors to give back to the MABRA community.

For more details on the annual meeting, the election, and volunteering, please see this News Post on the MABRA website.

Cheers,

Paul

Good afternoon,

My name is Stanley Martin. I am an athlete with the DMV Chapter of Achilles International. You may have seen our athletes in Achilles neon yellow shirts at local running events like the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler or Marine Corps Marathon. We hold practices in three locations in the DMV area:

-Washington, DC:  Wednesdays at 6:30PM and Saturdays and 8:30AM

-Baltimore, MD:  Saturdays at 10AM

-Leesburg, VA:  Sundays at 3PM

Last year, we started a para cycling program.  We were able to compete in our first two events and are looking to do more in 2026 and beyond.  If possible, could we attend your annual meeting on January 11th to introduce ourselves, possibly meet with race directors, and explore adding a para cycling category to some of your races in 2026 and beyond?  We know that there are a couple of MABRA races that have para cycling and we’d appreciate partnering with you to support your existing para cycling offerings and potentially expand them in the future.

With USA Paralympics Cycling now part of USA Cycling  and the UCI Paracycling World Championships in Alabama in September, this could be a great time for local associations to follow suit and create opportunities for para cyclists in the DMV area like myself and to partner with other organizations such as Wounded Warriors and Paralyzed Veterans of America.  If you have any questions, please reach out to our chapter lead, James Murphy at jmu...@achillesinternational.org or our program coordinator, Samantha Cinnick at admi...@achillesinternational.org.  Thank you for your time.

Hi Stanley,

Thanks for reaching out!  It's fantastic that the DMC Chapter of Achilles International has started a para cycling group and we can absolutely explore ways for MABRA to help support it going forward.  You are most welcome to attend our annual meeting on January 11 as I agree it would be helpful for your group to meet with some of our race directors as well as with MABRA officials and board members.

I will also reach out soon to your leadership team so we can discuss further.

Best,

Paul
