Howard County Cyclists is proud to announce the Randy Nixon Memorial Metric, Saturday, May 16, 2026. The ride, a memorial and fundraiser to honor our late club founder and community leader, Randy Nixon, will start and end at Alpha Ridge Park, in Marriottsville. We will follow the ride with a potluck picnic under a club-rented shelter (club to supply burgers, dogs, buns, and utensils/napkins). The ride offers three routes:

-- 62.2-mile metric, with 3,800 feet of climbing.
-- 31.6-mile half metric, with 1,800 feet of climbing.
-- 23-mile “Lite” version, with 1,500 feet of climbing.

You can view all routes in this Ride With GPS collection: https://ridewithgps.com/collections/9010387

We’ll start the metric at 8 a.m.; the half metric at 9 a.m.; and the Lite version at 10 a.m. We’ll treat each route as a no-drop ride, with ride leaders stopping as needed to regroup.

The ride will function as a fundraiser for cancer and heart research (Randy was in remission from cancer when he suffered a fatal heart attack in June 2025). We’ll take donations online via a secure platform (Zeffy) and split 100% of the proceeds equally between the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. We picked Zeffy for its reputation and because it takes zero fees, so all money collected will go to the organizations. We have a $2,500 fundraising goal.

You can visit the donation page here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/randy-nixon-memorial-metric

Please RSVP to join us for this event at: https://forms.gle/4tT2TpFCvSRWJKbm7

On the form, you can indicate what you’ll bring for the potluck and check the status of what others are bringing. You also can volunteer for various tasks, such as ride lead or sweep, grill master, and clean-up crew. We’ll recruit people on a first-come, first-served basis if there are multiple volunteers for the same job.

Looking forward to this event and to seeing everyone there!
