Good evening,

On behalf of the DMV Chapter of Achilles International, thank you for allowing us to present at your annual meeting.  It was great to meet all of you and we learned a lot about the organization.

We understand the financial constraints you all are under in running these races and want to make sure that you are filling the slots for each category that you run.  Our hope is that in providing a para cycling category, slots will be filled up not just by Achilles but other organizations in the DC area and beyond.

I wanted to point out a few races in Virginia that provide para cycling categories.  If you can reach out to their race directors (in addition to Church Creek), it could help you provide a blueprint on how to make your races accessible.  These include:

-Langley Speedway Criterium

-Conquer the Canal Time Trial

In addition, USA Cycling has expanded their para cycling national calendar.  A couple of races have put out their registration include:

-Swamp Classic - Micanopy, FL

-Valley of the Sun - Phoenix, AZ

If you would like to come out to one of our practices to ride with us, we have three locations in the DMV area.  The location and times can be found on our DMV Region page.  We would love to have you.  We ask that you complete the following steps before attending:

  1. Create an account and Achilles profile on Rosterfy.

  2. Follow the instructions to complete a background check through Sterling. It will take 5-6 hours to clear.

  3. Go back to the Achilles Rosterfy profile to watch or listen to the training video.

  4. Finally, sign up for your first workout on Rosterfy. Please only sign up for one until after you join your first workout.

We spoke with many of you after the meeting and would love to connect with you.  If you would like to connect with us about supporting us, rides, or how a para cycling category race could work, please shoot me a message and I’ll pass it along to our chapter lead and program director.

Thanks again!
