Wednesday, long time Chesapeake Wheelmen rider John Grice 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Aspen, Colo.
 
Raised in the Towson, Md area he joined the Wheelmen 1972 ish.
His brother Matt and sister Kathy were also very accomplished racing cyclist.
John  could do it all when it involved endurance sports.
 
His # 1 bike racing accomplishment.
During the 1980's when the Masters / Age Graded Nationals were just starting to develop John place 3rd in the 40 or 45 + Masters Men's event.
 
Years ago he rode the ABL of A Track Nationals , Northbrook, Illinois.
 
Rode and raced in most of those very early 100 mile Md District Road Championships held near Hydes, Baltimore County ( just north of Towson).
 
For many years swam the 4 mile mass start Chesapeake Bay Swim.
 
More recently developing his skills near his Aspen home in the new up hill skiing < Ski Mountaineering > which involves up hill climbing on skis.
 
He was also a regular on the Aspen summer Wednesday night 10 mile TT's series.
 
Gone but not forgotten.

So sorry to hear. I raced against John often in the 50+ division. He was a powerhouse. A great rider and a nice guy, one of many who encouraged me as I was starting out. John, I loved your story of how he secured his podium spot at the nationals.
