I am thinking about selling off two current bikes to replace with one new one, so before I get ready for sale I thought I'd throw out the idea on here to see what people think. Getting the new bike is predicated on selling the current two. Here's a description of one of them:
Anyone else remember Abici xlr8r bikes? I don't believe they were real common, but I've met the odd person here and there who used to race them, and loved them. I picked a frameset up from a friend who'd been sponsored, so it was untouched, and I built it up and have ridden it maybe 2k miles, raced maybe 3-5 times, but never crashed it. It's slightly compact geometry, aluminum with carbon seatstays, fork and steerer. It is built with dura-ace 9spd which, though used and has some nicks on the shifters (from the bike it was on previously), still functions fine thanks to regular attention. It is light, and it is stiff. Very snappy bike. Wheels are both hand built: dura-ace hubs F/R, velocity 28h aerohead on the front, H Plus Son TB 14 (hard ano) 28h rim on rear (that one only has maybe 700miles, built very recently).
I'd be selling it in good condition, it would come with a new chain, a thorough cleaning, and the current cables/housing are relatively new (maybe 200 miles?) as well, new wrap, etc.
Here's the other:
Cx bike, Garneau Steeple-X aluminum with carbon seat stays, fork, alu steerer. I believe it's the 2007 model (blue and white paint - i have the full geometry somewhere in my email if you need it). I picked the frameset up lightly used in the Spring, built it up and have ridden it since then, and raced it eight times (never crashed - full maintenance and cleaning after every race). This is a fun build: campy veloce 10spd shifters, SRAM Rival cranks (soon to be replaced with new FSA cranks), SRAM rival front der., Shimano 105 8spd der and SRAM 8spd cassette, tektro mini-vs, and dura-ace hubs built with Ambrosio Excellence rims. The campy 10 shifters and shimano 8spd drive train
works, strangely enough, and gives you the benefit of being inexpensively replaceable. New cassette and chain are dirt cheap! Broken rear derailleur? Someone is ALWAYS selling an 8spd mtn or road rear der for cheap. As with the previous bike, I would be selling it in good condition, new chain, thorough cleaning, etc.
I'm 5'10" and both fit me fine, though the abici is def more aggressive in the positioning.
I'm thinking around $750 for either.
I'm not in a rush to sell, so can work with ya if you're interested.
