Applemade the change under a settlement with the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC), announced in September 2021. While the agreement was made with the JFTC, Apple said, it is applying the change globally to all reader apps on the App Store.
Separately, also Wednesday, Apple said that to comply with a recent Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) order, it is eliminating the requirement that developers of dating apps in the Netherlands create two separate apps if they want to use a third-party payment system (one to accept third-party payments and another to accept App Store in-app payments). Apple will charge Dutch dating app developers a 27% commission regardless of which payment mechanism is used.
The Shopify Tap & Chip Reader is an EMV-compliant card reader that connects wirelessly to your iPad, iPhone, or Android device in the United States. You can use Shopify's Tap & Chip Reader to accept contactless and chip card payments with the Shopify POS app.
To process a POS transaction in person using Shopify Payments and a Shopify card reader, the country and currency information must match that of your physical store's location. Refer to Country and currency compliance for selling in person.
Some Shopify POS features, such as Tap to Pay, may require newer devices or newer operating system versions. Keeping all operating systems up-to-date is strongly encouraged to ensure the best security for your data.
The Shopify POS app doesn't support beta operating systems. For security, Shopify POS isn't supported on operating systems modified through "jailbreaking", "rooting", or other similar techniques, and requires a locked and unchanged bootloader.
If you update your device to iOS 14 or higher and use third-party Shopify apps, then you might need to activate Cross-Website tracking in your iOS settings. Cross-Website tracking lets third-party Shopify apps that you install in your Shopify admin stay connected in Shopify Inbox, Shopify Point of Sale, and the Shopify app.
If the reader is tampered with, dropped with a severe impact, or connected to an unstable power source, then the reader enters a tampered state. Tampered state is indicated by red LEDs illuminated on both the left and right of the reader.
To turn on the Tap & Chip Reader, press and release its power button. The status lights should turn on and display the battery level. If you've already paired and connected the reader with your POS device, then the reader automatically reconnects to the device.
After 8 hours of inactivity, the Tap & Chip Reader goes to sleep. You need to press and release the power button to wake the card reader again. If you press and hold the power button for 4 seconds or more, then the reader resets any Bluetooth pairing it had, and needs to be paired again.
You can charge the Tap & Chip Reader by using the USB cable that's supplied with it. To charge the reader, plug the small end of the USB connector into the card reader, and then plug the large end into a phone charger or computer.
To use the card reader with Shopify POS, you need to pair the reader with your device through Shopify POS. After the reader and device are paired, the reader automatically connects to the device whenever both are turned on and in range.
Customers enter their PIN directly on an iPad or iPhone device in Canada. To avoid unwanted contact with the screen, consider providing a Stylus pen for your customers to use when interacting with your POS device.
Refunds are available for Interac debit. To prevent fraud, the refund must be made in person with the debit card present. If the customer used an Interac card attached to a digital wallet, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, then the original device used must be present. You can't refund a purchase to a different payment than what was originally used, nor can you refund the purchase in cash. Refunds can't be completed through the Shopify admin.
For further security, Interac cards also have a cumulative Interac tap spend limit. This limit applies to the sum of all Interac contactless transactions made with the card from the last time the customer entered their PIN. When this limit is reached, the customer needs to insert the card and enter their PIN, which authorizes the purchase and resets the Interac tap spend limit.
Using the Shopify Dock for the Tap & Chip Reader with the incorrect adapter can cause the dock to overheat. To avoid overheating, use the Shopify Retail Stand or USB chargers supplying 6 Watts (5 V, 1.2 A) only.
The case is designed to attach the Shopify Tap & Chip reader to the back of your iPhone. This gives you the mobility and ease to take payments without being restricted to a countertop checkout. It also offers protection for your iPhone and card reader.
Bought this guy from China recently. It's a pretty neat little device that will hopefully work with my car's radio through its USB port. I'd like to be able to sync my Spotify CarFi playlist to it.
Luckily, the ZSUN guys where nice enough to leave a telnet port open and also strangely enough the root password found its way to people's home as well. Well whatever the cause it's pretty awesome that we pretty much get a half-baked 16MB Raspberry Pi equivalent for about a 1/4 of the price of a regular Pi (won't mention the #Zero since that turns out is pretty hard to get these days).
If you want get regular telnet, there are ways but I never got around to it. If it ain't broken, etc...
I found socat adequate for the job, even though it proved to be quite irritating at times.
The ZSUN reader has the ability to bridge your wifi through it's tiny guts and connect to the Internetz. Thing is, every time it reboots, it refreshes its configuration. That's why we will need to create our own config file that will be run after every startup.
I there anybody with a solution I may try?

Spotify will discontinue its Car Thing gadget, rendering it inoperable as of December 9th, 2024, with no refunds or credits for customers. The decision is part of Spotify's strategy to streamline product offerings and focus on new features for a better overall user experience. Initially launched in April 2021 and sold publicly in February 2022, the Car Thing was a limited remote control for Spotify on mobile phones, attracting a niche community but ultimately lacking broader appeal.

Apple is developing an all-screen foldable MacBook with a targeted release date of 2026, a year earlier than previously reported. The device may feature an 18.8-inch or 20.3-inch foldable display, with the goal of achieving a crease-free design through high-cost components. The foldable MacBook is expected to include an M5-series chip and will likely be priced significantly higher than current MacBook models due to the high cost of the display and hinge.
Ebooks have not swept away traditional tomes the way streaming services for music, movies, and TV shows have slashed sales of discs. Physical book sales are booming, but ebooks and audiobooks have a dedicated, appreciative audience. If you love to read, an ebook subscription service is a great way to discover new titles, find recommendations, and read more indie books. We tried out several of the most popular options, delving into their available libraries, apps, and features to determine the best ebook subscription services and audiobook subscriptions for different people.
While an ebook subscription might sound ideal, you should take some time to consider the pros and cons of each one. These digital reading services are often billed as the equivalent of Netflix or Spotify for books, and there are similarities, but ebook subscriptions also have some unexpected restrictions.
The big five publishers (Penguin Random House, Hachette, Macmillan, HarperCollins, and Simon & Schuster) dominate the bestseller charts in the US but have had limited dealings with ebook subscription services so far. Current best-seller lists are not well represented, and the modest list of mainstream hits that appears mostly comprises older titles. Whatever service you are considering, we advise browsing the available library of ebooks and audiobooks before you commit.
Reading Habits: If you only read one or two books a month, you might be better off buying popular titles, recommendations from trusted friends, or works by your favorite authors. That way, you get to choose the best ebooks and keep them. With ebook subscriptions, you lose access the moment you stop subscribing, and the library of available books can change at any time without notice.
