Hi there, I have been having difficulties getting YouTube to play videos on higher quality, when it loads its on 480p and as soon as I change it manually to anything above that it keeps scrolling and plays the sound with the video frame stuck on whenever I changed the quality.

I have tried deleting the cache and cookies as well as delete the history and even logged out of youtube and back again multiple times and it seems to not fix it. This issue is only on youtube any other videos its fine.

I would highly suggest that you do clear the Dropbox app's cache, if that's where you're seeing the issue, to see if it helps, but keep in mind that the previews of the files are not necessarily representative of the quality of the actual video.

Hi everyone. I'm having some issues uploading videos on squarespace. I've got some 4k videos that I put in the video section page, but for some unknown reason squarespace only upload them in 1080p. I contacted the assistance many and many times for that but nobody could help me.

I'm having some issues uploading videos. I've got some 4k videos...but for some unknown reason squarespace only upload them in 1080p. I just want to know if it's an issue you're having as well or if it's just me.

Although you can upload videos with a maximum resolution of 4K, it is not possible to play them at 4K after they have been uploaded. This is because Squarespace encodes the 4K video as a lower bitrate 1080p MPEG4 file after it is uploaded, for playback at 1080p or 360p.

In addition to the resolution limit, Squarespace also limits the video bitrate. A higher video bitrate usually means a higher quality video but is only useful if the visitor has sufficient bandwidth available to stream the video.

My original video is in 4k, 25fps, H.265. However, I have also created alternative versions of it in order to avoid having compatibility issues if I want to upload it somewhere. So I have also created:

Has anyone found an solution? Because the video`s come out horrible.

Is adding them to Youtube and then adding to the website a workarround? Or does it still put them through the meat grinder as you say.

Its probably a cheap way for squarespace to limit bandwith.

Squarespace employees don't routinely monitor this forum for feedback (see the guidelines - item 7) so if you'd like to pass on your feedback about video hosting, or make a feature request, you can do so by contacting Squarespace Customer Care.

Adding to this thread in case somehow it helps to bring the topic up for attention from Squarespace. It's ridiculous!! Some videos get super pixelated for some reason. If anyone finds a solution, it'd be greatly appreciate it.

I'm running an aerial photography studio and having blurry noisy videos for my clients first impression is absolutely not acceptable.

One workaround that i settled on is simply uploading the videos to Youtube as unlisted, then linking them in the Squarespace background.
This has one problem though, everytime your video loops, it flashes black for half a sec.
Uploaded videos dont do that. But again, 1080p is unacceptable for professional sites.

I upload videos from my iphone 6 plus. When I view them on my phone with the Dropbox app, they are far less sharp than the original. When I view them from the Dropbox website, they are better, but still not quite as good as the original. Is there some video setting I need to change? As far as I know the original files (full resolution) are what is uploaded, so the quality should be the same.

Please keep in mind that the preview does not offer the same quality as the original file. Specifically, the quality of the preview depends on your internet connection at the time when you're trying to view it.

Terry, did you figure out an answer? I have high quality HD movies on a macbook pro, upload them to DropBox and the resulting DropBox videos have very poor resolution. Can't figure out why??? Any thoughts?

Your second comment solved my dilemma. I didn't realize that the first 15 minutes of a DropBox video plays a preview file. Once the video was downloaded, the high resolution version was immediately available and infinitely better!

When I upload the videos directly to Canvas, I've noticed that the default playback quality is 126 kbps. In order to see the detail in the screen cast videos, I need the video to play in at least 190 kbps.

@alyson_lamanes , greetings! I did a little research and I don't see where it's possible to change this. My recommendation is to contact the Canvas Help Desk to see if they can help. To do this, click on the Help link and Report a Problem.

I found that you can increase the quality of a single MP4 by clicking on the star settings button and increasing the playback to high quality feed, but has anyone found the setting in Canvas that allows you to default to playing ALL videos at the higher quality? Thanks

I wholeheartedly agree. Our organization needs our training videos to be clear, and the text for some of our videos is not clear on the lowest quality settings. Please provide a way for us to make the setting high quality by default.

Come on, Canvas! This needs to be done asap. My students constantly have to change the resolution with EACH AND EVERY VIDEO! Do they always remember? Nope. Do they miss things because they can't see details very clearly? YES!

Hi @DonnovanBR I've found that you really do need to download the videos - I think it's called "cache at high quality" in the Meta Quest TV app. The difference is incredible - and I have a great internet service here.

Look up Hugh Hou's videos - they are absolute gems! I've found it not to be the easiest to find videos on there too - in the past I've had to go to youtube, find the name of his videos, then search for them on the TV app.

Hey hey @DonnovanBR, just stopping by to put in my two cents on this. What you were saying about it being the content itself is what I think is most likely happening here. The quality of the videos is mostly dependent on the quality of the video that someone uploaded. While there are some other factors that could cause intermittent issues, like network connectivity, I know I've seen my fair share of low quality videos in VR over the years. I mainly use my headset for games, so I might not be the best person to ask on how to find top quality video content, but hopefully some others can chime in here to help!

So after playing around with different video sizes I discovered that when uploading the video to webflow it was compressing it during the transcoding process and then stretching it back out as @Siton_Systems was saying in the post above. As far as I can tell there is no way to prevent this loss of quality when uploading to webflow regardless of the actual video size, so I started to explore different options.

Turns out, you can upload videos to Dropbox and use it as a host for the video. You can then use the video link from the Dropbox file and put it in an HTML5 video embed. This method causes no loss in quality and you can size it much easier than a background video element anyway.

I would also like to see quality settings on video uploads. I have made my website with video for my business name/logo and it needs to be a bit sharper on wide breakpoints. The video is 1920 pixels wide. See: penninewebsites.com

Yes. Give it a go. Others may recommend other ideas. I have uploaded to YT with 1080p and the results were poor. Same video exported with 4K and uploaded to YT improves the quality. I think this has been discussed on the forum before, a quick search will probably show that thread.
