I am unable to use a Samson USB CO1U microphone on a PC running XP, SP3. When I plug it into the USB port, Windows generates the sound indicating that it has found new hardware, and the green LED on the mic lights. But, it does not work, and the device manager reports that it cannot find a driver after searching. The same mic works on a Vista machine.
As an aside, I contacted Samson support about this mic: they had a specialized driver, but it was poorly written and introduced cracks, pops, ticking noises, clipping, etc. into the recorded audio. Samson support suggested that I uninstall their driver and let windows update pick it back up -- and this worked marvelously.
Hello fellow musicians. I can connect the Samsung with USB to the pc but not sure if optimal and can only select The generic Asio driver in Cubase ALWAYS present before the Samson Mic and Audio Interface was plugged (or my built in Yamaha DGX 670 but that is for xlr):
WIll the Samson mic work with Cubase vi USB or does it require something similar to Garageband? I use CUbase but perhaps my son can have it for Youtube videos/podcast along with an alternative DAW. I like to record singing with it though and he also sings so.
((One never knows since there is USB with audio from pc to piano and vice versa but that would be stupid to have Samson convert the signal into digital via its built in Audio interface then the pc transfer the digital signal or convert it to audio then the pianos audio interface RETREATING that signal, then sending it back via USB to be recorded. Seems implausible. ))
Q4. My simple conclusion would be: MIc directly plugged to Audio interface (Either the pianos or the pcs: HOwever in the latter case I wished the microphones audio card to be the one). So I guess it is just a question of the driver probably, in order to get that to work. Or?
PS/CONCLUSION: OK SO I installed the ASIO4all driver and yes it works fine. Its latency is around 17 ms. SUddenly the latency of the generic asio driver went down from 40 ms to 20 ms: Perhaps the competition propelled it to such.
Well, the latency was higher than that resulting in accessing the Steinberg yamaha USB audio interface so for some reason that seems to be better. Physically it would seem to be an advantage having such short distance as from the Samson Q2U microphone into the pc which makes me wonder how the latency can be shorter when using the Pianos AUdio card. But there may be several factors adding to the latency.

The C01U is not a stereo mic as far as I know. In my opinion you should set Windows Default Format to 1 channel 44100 Hz, then in Device Toolbar , choose mono recording (and MME host as you have it already). Choose 44100 Hz project rate (as you have it already).
If the problem with not getting a decent level without distortion persists (after recording in mono and plugging into an empty USB port) then I think you should ask Samson about it. Audacity only records the signal you give it.

I find that really peculiar, actually, because in my old laptop, I was running it as a stereo microphone for months and it worked like a charm, no problems whatsoever. But, well, if this laptop wants it as a mono microphone, so be it, I suppose.
This is also a trick for extending the cable length of your USB microphone. You get two USB cables, one from the computer to the hub and then another one from the hub to the microphone. No dangerous USB cable extensions.
For the second time, I'm getting the recognition issue. I cannot remember for the life of me what I did last time, but this time it refuses to be recognized. It works on other computers, and worked on this one yesterday. Nothing has changed on this computer. The firmware program will not work if the device is still unrecognized. There needs to be much more support around this error.
29 December 2018: My Samson Q2U USB microphone still has the recognition issue, even after implementing all the recommended fixes below in Windows 10. This is so disappointing, how do I claim a refund for an unusable product ?
My samson Go Mic Connect it's getting recognized as "USB Advanced Audio Device" since yesterday, i've tried at 3 different computers and i get the same result. Even i've tried reinstalling the drivers.
I followed the steps suggested in the attached PDF. What I discovered is that the VID and PID of the microphone as reported to Windows is NOT correct. It is reporting VID_0D8C&PID_0170 which is a C-Media Electronics Inc Advanced Audio Device.
It seems I having a problem similar to Mr. Chris Fischer. My mic is a C01u pro and it is reporting the same VID and PID as his mic (VID_0D8C&PID_0170) without apparent cause. Unfortunately, I live in Brasil and technical assistance costs are impracticable. It seems the product lost its original firmware...

1 Type Control Panel in the search box.
2 Click Control Panel.
3 Type Power Options.
4 Click Choose what the power buttons do.
5 Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
6 Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Click Save changes.
Did anyone find the solution for samson c01u pro firmware loss? After a unexplicable firmware loss, its VID and PID became (VID_0D8C&PID_0170). As I live in brasil, repair costs are impracticable. If you had the same problem and see this message, please post your solution here, since samson just told me to find a technical assistance.
I found another user had a similar problem about 6 years ago and posted a solution at github, but I am not shure if the microphone circutry changed since then. If I just apply the firmware upgrade, I could brick my unit. Best regards.
I have made some progress. It was not showing up in device manager, so I moved to a different usb port and the light went from pale yellow to red. I did the firmware update and I now have bright yellow and the mute button turns the light off. I think we are on the way! Will update tomorrow.....

So for anyone else who has the problem, make sure device manager actually knows its there!
USB ports are funny things and in my case changing from the one the front (which works) to the one on the back woke up device manager and then I did the firmware update as described here.
