SolarWinds SAM gives you the tools to monitor your servers and applications through a single web console. It provides custom collections of templates, application monitors, and alerts to intelligently monitor application status and issues. Monitor over 200 application types including application servers, authentication servers, database servers, and more.
Click here to download a free trial. After installing SAM, see the SAM Getting Started Guide. If you're already using SAM, you can easily add other products from the My Deployment page in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
I must be missing something... I've seen the advice given in this thread Re: Unassign nodes from a created template but as this is 5 years old and apparently applied to APM (not SAM) there is no "Manage Assigned Application Monitors" link any longer. I would figure that removing an application monitor from a node would be pretty intuitive but for the life of me I can't find where to do it. Please help this (possibly blind?) man see!
... is a bit alarming and misleading and implies that you may be about to blow away potentially hours of work. Any way to modify this so that it's a bit... erm... clearer that it's just the assignment you're deleting?
Instead of deleting the component from the assigned application or template, you can simply disable them. This retains the configuration settings and allows you to easily revert the change if needed. Deleting is forever. Hence the ominous warning message.
The thing is, if you do it from where I specified, it doesn't delete the Application Monitor, just the link. The problem is that the warning that shows up makes it look like you might be deleting the app monitor when you're not.
From where you referenced, deleting in this case is removing the assigned application as a whole from the designated node. Are you trying to no longer monitor an entire application or just one or two components of an application? If you are trying to remove the entire application from being monitored on the node, then this the correct manner in which to do so.
Right - I was trying to remove the application monitor from the node, not delete it (which to me at least implies that the template as well is being deleted.) I know how to disabled individual Component Monitors both within the template and within the assigned Application Monitor; my concern is that the message above seems to say that the Application Monitor and the template will be zapped.
I agree with you. I have never liked how that is displayed. You have to be very careful which tab you are on or you can accidentally blow away your whole template. I wish they would change the 'Delete' button on the Assigned Application Monitors tab to something more along the line of 'Unmonitor' or something similar as well as change the verbiage of that dialog box.
After being applied to a node, a template becomes an application monitor, which is comprised of component monitors, also known as performance counters. Application monitors created from templates are used to report metrics based on your needs. This example provides steps for creating a template for monitoring WMI.
You will create a template with added monitors, configure the monitors, then apply the template to nodes for monitoring. We also provide information for creating an alert for the WMI application to send email notices based on monitored thresholds.
I have a SNMP service template with multiple nodes tied to it. A certain node does not need that template no more. No where can I find to remove that node from that template. If I try from the apm node to edit application monitor then delete. It removes the monitor but the template is staying with the node. Now my APM shows a template with an error due that node not being monitored (unknown state).
I did a search here nothing come up from remove node from template to unassisgn node from template. I am even getting error going from page 2-3 saying resources not found but if I go direclty to 5 or 6 it take me their.
Is that what you're doing? Go to Assigned Application Monitors, select the target node, and then delete the unwanted template. Then you go to APM Application Summary and that app template is still associated with the node?
I struggled with this too. The only way I found to remove a large number of nodes from a template was to make a copy of it and then delete the original. Next I added the nodes to the copy and renamed it. There should be a better way, but I can't find it.
Here's a screen shot of Managing Assigned Applications in SAM. Group By Application Monitor and the results pane will show all servers that the application is assigned to. Check the servers you want the template removed from and delete.
Has anyone thrown together an Cisco ISE template for tracking the processes and other key areas of ISE? I have tried adding some of the SSH templates and running the "show application status ise" however, they keep timing out at the prompt. Has anyone figured this out yet?
I followed those instructions and was able to get the ISEs into Solarwinds, however, it only monitors the ping and resources. I was able to create a few process monitors and figured out which ones where needed and bound those to the process monitors. I have tested them and it works.
When you go into ISE via SSH and run show application status ISE, it shows which processes are running and which PID they are running with. Basically it breaks down as follows (Note* these are all linux process monitors):
As you probably notice here and definately when you go to look at the processes, there are multiple instances. Within the process monitor, there is a command filter you can put in to separate the instances for a particular service. You can get these by checking the process monitor within Solarwinds to capture the command line used to run the service's instance. Also, in the case of JSVC for example, there are 2 instances of JSVC running for both the application server service, and the CA service. I created an Alert that triggers if the instances every fall below 2 for that particular service.
