Dear Students,

Now that I see your enthusiasm for the Film Club, I was wondering if you are willing to do something to promote daring film makers.

Please do read and circulate selectively.

Dear Friends,

As many of you are aware, I've been working on a film on the riots that broke out in  Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts in September last year.

The film has entered the post-production phase and we're currently trying to raise money to complete the film. We had earlier decided to have an open crowd funding after the Lok Sabha election results. But with the results being what they were we decided it probably wouldn't be a good idea to announce the film before it's ready. Going by BJP's and Sangh Parivaar's past record I sense the film will be getting into a lot of trouble once it's released. So, after careful consideration some of us felt there's no point in inviting the wrath of the Sangh even before the film is ready. That way the film may never see the light of day.

And so, we've decided to go in for a quiet, low-key crowd funding. This mail is essentially an appeal for funds. We have so far raised raised roughly Rs. 2.5 lakhs for the film and need to raise at least another Rs.8-10 lakhs to complete the film.
The expenses largely include paying rent for the hired equipment (camera, sound gear, edit machines, sound studio etc.), paying the crew who've put in their heart and soul to shoot the film and often at great personal risk and finally paying off the loans we'd taken during the production stage to be able to shoot the film. .

Below are links to the trailer of the film-

The trailer is roughly 13 minutes long. It's been made specifically to raise funds and that's why the length. The idea of the trailer was to try and bring out the several aspects around the riots that the film is looking at. Along with this, please find attached the film proposal. The proposal also has links to other videos about the riots which we uploaded on youtube while working on the film.

If you feel that this work is important and you'd like to contribute to it's creation we'd be very grateful if you could help us with a donation. Whatever you can. Moreover, since we can't screen the trailer openly could I request you all to also identify people who you think may be interested in supporting the project and forwarding the mail to them as well.

Once the film is ready we'll send across DVD copies to all those of you who've donated and we would love to credit you in the final credits of the film as well. However, if you don't want your name to feature in the film (we can fully understand given the political atmosphere in the country today) please do let us know and we will be careful to ensure that your name is not on the credit list.

If you do wish to contribute please do get in touch with me on nak...@gmail.com or you could call me on 9560924115 and I'll get back to you with further details. Or you could just mail me your number and I'll call you back.

Also, I sincerely request you all not to share the trailer on facebook, twitter or any other social networking site. The trailer is also 'unlisted' on Youtube which essentially means that you can't find it by searching for it unless you have the link. And please be careful to not share the link with any Sanghi. The rate at which closet Sanghis are revealing themselves after the elections is quite startling! As I explained earlier, we really don't want to go public with the film till it's fully ready and we're prepared with some protection gear!

Looking forward to your help.

Thanks so much,
Nakul
