hey guys!

first of all, great job to Hakim for setting up the Google Group!
things should start getting interesting from now on :). before going
on further, i'd like to personally thank everyone once again for
taking up this responsibility of organising the m208 orientation, as
we are now not only responsible in ushering in the 200 or so new med
students coming in August, but also molding their views on how they
will run their orientation for their juniors as well.

so yes, let's do our best guys :)

anyhow, i'm setting up this thread/discussion for anyone to voice out
their overal opinions, grouses and suggestions for the m208
orientation as a whole. it's an open discussion, so let's not take
criticisms personally or act un-med-student-like.

A good start is on the theme itself. Is it:

a) "Too Past, Too Futurious", or
b) "Too Past, Too Futurous"

both sound equally as catchy, but neither "Futurous" nor "Futurious"
exist in the dictionary. i personally choose "Futurious" because it
rhymes more with "Furious". so yea, it's your call :)

FUTUR IOUS

By the way, I want to say something about the video. Instead of just
showing all about the committee members in the video, can we do a
video for the juniors? As in include things like "Don't be afraid to
mix around", "Welcome to the IMU family" and things like that to make
them feel welcomed.

Hmmm, does that mean we have 2 videos now? I think if we want to make
a video for the juniors, we can make one of would most likely be
previewed only at...Finale Night? We're asking a lot from Hakim and
Sabree already, and I don't want our Movie Maker Magicians to burn out

Let me say something here.. I do agree with Jimmy (although then the
workload will be more for me and Sabree..huhu)
but what about screening the welcoming video before orientation..and
the committee video during Finale Night.
We could always take the committee members as actors for the
orientation intro + welcome to IMU video (just for publicity
sake..hehe)

Sabree and I would also like to make a video, compiling all events and
groups in the orientation and oh, maybe sell it to the juniors in CD -
like what the seniors did in our time (only that the video was nothing
but dark background and whitish subjects in the spotlight). For this,
we may need some sort of ruling where each orientation group is
required to send in like 10 photos of their members (and their
practice sessions)...hmmm but still...hoping that me and Sabree would
still be hardworking that time...who knows?

Anyway keep on commenting on my post 'Any Ideas for the Video' cause
we need your view too...

the video is a good idea, is there a time limit? i would htink dunt
make it too long, because it might get too draggy, keep it short and
stupid. and two videos, plus compiling the junior's video, would that
be too much work for the movie guys? how bout just having the two
videos together, like the orientation comm intro one, and the
welcoming one. oooo it can be like an interview, you interview all the
famous characters from the past, its like a gathering for something
huge.. ahhaa.

i duno lah. my brain now alot of nonsense, damn gleeful that the hols
are here. DONT THINK ABOUT RESULTS yet.

the months of preparations for exams and a week of results' waiting

here's a short message from our hot president who's currently
undergoing taekwondoe training for sukma!:
congrats to all those who made it into second year! =D
but those who need to resit, don't give up just yet. we're all here
for you if you guys need anything at all. you're not allowed take part
in helping out in the orientation preparations now because it's time
to study study study! you guys can do it! we all know you can! =) for
now until sukma's over, the preparations'll be handled by ray mun. so
if there's anything at all, you know who to look for =)

hey guys..

congratulations to all those who made it through EOS 2, though my
heart goes out to the other 66 of our batch mates who didn't make it.
let's keep the m207 spirit high and support our batch mates in
whatever means possible, as mentioned by woei jiun.

getting back to business, we really need to get our act together, as
orientation will be in less than 3 month's time. we need to have one
last committee meeting before we all leave for our holidays, and i was
thinking of this coming Monday, 2nd of June 2008 (time and venue, to
be confirmed). i know it's pretty last minute but let us make full use
of this opportunity to clear off whatever we can now, before it ruins
our holidays. this is our last chance saloon, guys.

anyone who would like to suggest a better date/time for our next
meeting, please do so. we'll be sending out mass sms-es to everyone on
friday evening/night to inform and confirm our meeting. our agenda for
the upcoming meeting will be:

1) Timeline of Orientation - date and events
2) Finalisation of Proposals - proposals to be CONFIRMED by this
meeting. applies to ALL events, so please do your homework. every
comm. member needs to know what's happenening (thanks karim). no more
changes after this.
3) Orientation T- Shirt and Banner - needs to be completed by early
august/late july. please trash out some designs by monday, even rough
sketches of the t-shirt / banner will do.
4) Orientation Video - rough plot has to be confirmed before the
meeting ends, script confirmed by early july if possible.

pretty much about it. sory if i sound a biiit pushy here guys, we
really have tons to work on.

2nd june i will be back johor d. will be back on 28th june.
i m working out wif steven wif the ice breakers and will collaborate
with the chief SMs to get manpower with the station masters.
for ice breakers, is there a time line we hv to follow to?
any period of suggetion?
the dry ice breaker we hv stated in the proposal, as for the wet ice
breakers, any ideas fr u guys?or u wanna stick to stations like
previous orientation?

i just came back from a mad day of outing! =D hee.

anyways, June 2nd monday sounds good. but confirm the time and venue
asap with me yea, ray mun. i don't really think ppls're checking up on
the google group these days, so i'll mass text them all. i fink time
should be morning or afternoon whichever. place will be like the
lecture theatres as usual.
the timeline: are we having it for a week or two weeks? yep, gotta
arrange the events now!

orientation tshirt and banner: maybe we can ask kang jie to design

regardless of the time at the moment because if we can't get the
lecture theatre, prolly have to move to the pbl rooms or somewhere
smaller depending on the number of ppls who're gona turn out.

and ppls who're going for the cancer relay tmr: much sleep needed! i
actually have no idea what's going to happen there but hoping for a

hello people =)

okay, since we need rough sketches of the tshirt and banner designs by
monday and i have absolutely zero designs now,
i need help!
if anyone has ideas or designs for the shirts and banner, please
please PLEASE share them with me. it would be greatly appreciated, to
say the least.
this whole shirt, banner and booklet thing is starting to stress me
out..

anyone with ANY idea at all. it doesn't matter how simple it is, i'm
sure we can improve on it.

i hope to hear from some people soon!

Alright, venue and time for the next meeting is confirmed:
Venue: LT2, Level 3
Time: 10.00 am

Once again, attendance is super, duper important. for those who have
already left for outstation by monday, please make sure that at least
one person from your committee is present for this monday's meeting.
every committee MUST be represented.

please be PUNCTUAL. some of us have malay classes an 1130am so don't
waste their efforts.

shin ying: it's ultimately your call. all of us can suggest
improvements for wet/dry icebreakers but as committee members in
charge of icebreakers, you call the shots :)

ee laine: try approaching kang jie and fung if they can collaborate
to
design the t-shirt or banner, or both. please contact them over the
weekend and any form of verbal agreement by them to assist us will be
a great start indeed. as for the booklet, i'd recommend you to get
Adobe Photoshop CS. it'll make the booklet designing a whole lot
easier. i've used it before, so feel free to ask if there's anything
i
can help :)

pam: can you please inform everyone about this monday's meeting via
sms? please share the workload with sara yea. thanks lots once

had an uber blast at the national cancer relay! such a mighty aim to
be there. a good cause indeed =D next year round, you guys should come
=)

okay back to work:
1. the guidelines for proposal writing has been put up in the pages
section, so please download it and it'll save you tons of time of
thinking about the format or how you wana present it tomorrow.
2. please remember meeting's at MONDAY JUNE 2ND, LT2, 10AM. be uber
punctual yea!
3. please submit your proposals to ray mun by tomorrow. and remember
to send me a soft copy of your proposal to my email:
basketba...@yahoo.com or pass me a hard copy tomorrow, so that i
can mass photocopy for everyone.
4. tomorrow's going to be the last day for us to think and crack our
brains out for ideas before we all head out to enjoy til' the fullest,
so let's all berganding bahu to finish up what're proposed to be done

hi everyone,i'm back into business.....sorry ray mun for slaving you

i'm currently trying to keep up with things since i left, and it's not
easy reading all the minutes,i tell you.....i've been told by the last
president that banners and movie productions should be hastened
first,so we will will start doing stuff practically very soon. I'll
try to settle the problem of IMU Cup clashing with orientation and the
set dates for each event in the meantime.

juniors shirt as it may not fair for sum of de conservative juniors
esp if we r planning to wet de juniors =) dun stress out Eelaine!!!

daphne and i went to the printing shop yesterday and we brought some
samples back.
thanks for your suggestion, Xinying :) we won't be using white, don't
worry!
we were thinking either teal or yellow for the juniors, but we'll need
the committee's approval before we carry on with the shirts. as for
the seniors, black? that's what the previous seniors wore, so we were
thinking we stick to that 'tradition'. or should we be the first batch
to be different? suggestions are very very much welcomed :)

as for the designs, we have some already. still, if any of you have
any designs, please share them =)

you guys going to use it for?

as for the colour of the tshirts, yupps we can continue to use black
cos i heard from someone that black colour is for seniors (which i
have no idea whether its pure crap or true). so if we were to use
black for seniors, then using teal for juniors might be a little too
close to black but i guess the colour of the tshirt is up to you guys
to choose. perhaps you can also, take photos of the smaples you guys
took back and post them as well? errr, if thats not too taxing on you
all:)

Alright, Sowmya and myself have just spoken to Miss Aziah from the AAD
last Friday. The first draft for M208's timetable is already out, and
looking at it, M208's Orientation will have to be slightly different
from previous years'. Things are now..slightly complicated but nothing
can't be resolved with another committee meeting once our semester
restarts.

ha ha ha..

Anyhow, it's most likely gonna be in the afternoon, on Tuesday (29th
of July) or Wednesday (30th) in one of the Seminar Rooms, and the
meeting will be preeeetttyyy long. There will be lots of voting and
discussion so do expect to stay back till evening. To all committee
members, please come prepared with any updates which the Orientation
Committee should know. Expect phone calls/SMSes regarding the meeting
coming your way in the following week, most likely once our timetable
has been finalised.
