Any ideas for the video?

Hello guys! Since Sabree and I are in charge of producing the
'orientation video', we would like to know what you feel the video
should be like. Maybe, you could suggest on the concept or special
effects you would like to see,or even, what you hated about the past
'orientation videos' so that we'll do something better. We don't
promise that all your expectations will be satisfied, but ,we would
consider them though...thanks!

Hahahaha. Don't worry I won't mind being the first to give ideas and
TALK. HAhaha... Can we do a passage through time of all the cars? Like
from the flintstone age up until the future - maybe we can have a car
in dunno what movie it is but the cars can go up and down buildings.
Since our theme is Too Past and Too Futurious then it's alright to
have it to do with cars. Hahahahaha... I mean cars don't have to be
the main focus, but the change of the way the cars look through time
does bring out the message of the theme - progression. The cars can be
the means of transport. For example, me and Izzat can ride in a
Bentley to variety night but maybe we will call it the ODEON or
something in the 70's. HAHAHAAH. That will be so cool. Maybe the
Dresscode people like Jason and Li Ching can ride in pathetic Beetles
and then come out of the car into a fashion show with glitz and stuff.
Red carpet and shit like that. LOL...Hahahaha...Just joking Jason and
Liching. Ok i think i talked too much.

mm... for the vid, what if we try incorporate IMU campus elements,
like the MMS, the canteen, etc...the things and places the students
will eventually explore. since its an intro vid for the juniors, might
as well give them a glimpse of things to expect. Humour will obviously
be the tool to make it interesting. any suggestions?

and about the the car evolution...its a good idea but it would be a
challenge. and if we use cars, how would the story be? act as a
transport medium from era to era? move from where to where? from event
to event? would this be for the intro vid or committee vid?

:D sorry for the questions. just want to get clear ideas from u all.

hurmm..just a suggestion..mayb can show like comm members travelling
in cars from different era to urm...different places in imu for an
adventure? and give those places different names ( mad scientist lab
aka pathology lab?)

Ok i got a few ideas from some of you..but still need more..let me
give you some info..
Let's start with the "special effects" that we could actually do (and
if possible i want it to be used also):
1)The disappearing effect, like the movie Jumper
2)Time freezing effect, with one character moving
3)The gunshots and explosion effects (pls watch my video:

4)Changing colour tones effect
5)Slow-motion
6)Blue screen effect, to put characters in a different background
And other basic video editing techniques (like glow, pan/cropping,
timeline, TV, film effects etc.), plus the lightsaber effect (never
tried, but possible to be done also)

I've just downloaded (to my laptop) a few songs fit to be used in an
action-secret-mission-like video, and i really want to use them for
our video!

And so i suggest we do something like - an evil corporation trying to
'bomb' / 'lure students to join them (like where our friends have gone
to) and leave' IMU.
Well then maybe the orientation committee are in charge of
protecting / saving / 'fight for' IMU students.
To make this relevant with our theme, we could incorporate like time
travelling machine / 'jumper ability' / 'Back to the Future' elements.
That was just a start. I'll try to describe more as i'll figure out
how each committee will be represented.
We could have gunfight, chasing, and fighting scenes around IMU and
Vista; but the point is to have some action..hahaha

That was for the second video, but for the first one, i suggest a
choreography

hey hakim! this is out of the topic..but do u know why at times im
reading this page in BM then sometimes in english? instead of page..im
seeing halaman..and instead of discussion i am seeing
perbincangan...any way to solve this?? TQ.

Hello sharon,
and to everyone too..

If you're seeing 'Halaman', 'Perbincangan' and other Malay words in
this website..that means you're in Malaysia!
haha..welcome to our own country...maybe, just maybe, the default
language for Google.com.my (or the Google server in Malaysia - if that
exist) is Bahasa. I really dunno the 'real problem' actually.

So, i'd suggest you log out and go to google.co.uk, and search for
M208-orientation in Google groups (under the tab - 'more'), go to the
link it'll then show you.. It's a lot of work, but you'd have to do
that only if you don't understand simple malay words. Well, even if
you don't, you could already guess the meaning of each word...


"I love my country, and i'm proud of Bahasa Malaysia"..."wow, that's
patriotic"..."whatever"


Anyway, for your information, this isn't the first Google group i've
set up for our committee..
Just so you know, I've set up one before, and for that one the default
language was Bahasa Malaysia.
And so i've asked around, to know whether i could change the language
settings, and i've even google(d) it.
Unfortunately, i couldn't find the solution, everytime i log in, there
they were, 'Halaman', 'Perbincangan', etc.
It came to a point of time when i thought i'd just let it be and start
to invite you guys to the group, but then, after thinking back, it
concerned me what if some of us couldn't understand it - then it would
be a big problem!

So what i did - shut down the old Google group, and open up a new one
(the one we're in now), adding just a dash in the group's name between
'M208' and 'orientation'. And to make sure it'll be in English, i've
registered the group in the UK Google site (google.co.uk). Voila! The
problem was solved, at least for me. But it seems now that my effort
was somewhat futile as to make sure you guys wouldn't have any
problems at all in using this site, and for that, I'm sorry.

I hope this will explain a bit of the 'default language' problem.

The first video is more of a friendly introduction to IMU right?

In my mind right now is to give tiny hints of the 'evil' plot in the
1st friendly introduction video.
What i imagine is we showcase the norms of imu campus life, and as we
do that, we see very subtle evidence of this evil corporation setting
up IMU for its destruction. Bit by bit, in some scenes we can make
slightly noticable the preparations being done, lets say, unknown
people around imu, unexplained marks on walls or floors or anywhere
where bombs are going to be placed, mind control devices being placed
in IMU(to lure us), strange notices on notice boards that the evil
corporation themselves put up,etc...

near to the end, someone accidently bumps into one of the evil
corporation's agent, and flashes of the future(the destruction of IMU)
and the hints appears in her thoughts...screen goes black. turns out
that she passed out after bumping into the 'agent'. She was placed in
the recovery position(slot to introduce first aid?). She reckons that
it was all a dream. Til, in the 2nd video, she experiences de ja vu's
and realises that the dream she had foretold a sinister plot. Then,
all the action starts.

it..well i did change the language settings and all it helped but well
sometimes it just revert back to OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE! but ahh

Btw, Im wondering when are we suppose to film all this. What is the
date for orientation to officially start?

"The IT committee has to come up with a draft of the videos outline of
the video by 14th of July as we will start filming on the 21st of July
before the term starts so that we can concentrate on our Summatives.
IT committee to take note on preparing the draft of the videos by 14th
of July. Feel free to get help from anybody."

and about the theme, like i've said, "To make this relevant with our

the orientation, you will be in a time warp, travelling from the past
to the future. So, would you join us?"(or, "the choice is yours...the
sheep, or the wolf.".haha)

hurmm well i think its actually a pretty cool idea! but hurmm...but
hopefully it'll look cool enough..cos these kinda theme/show can be

Thanks Justin 4 showing us d video.
although i'm not planning to do something like that, because i can't
do those 3D effects, and i don't want us copying straight away from
the Matrix. Let's do it our own way - 'Rojak' action movie, because
only in Malaysia can you get rojak (and in our neighbouring countries
but that doesn't matter).

Lame or not lame, well that's d risk we take. Or we could do as simple
as the previous batches - but we could do better i think. Most
importantly - we're gonna need good acting

Sabree, i thought the script that u've written up there will be for
the 1st video, so that it'll be continued in the 2nd video.
In the 2nd video, then, all committee members will be introduced.
And don't worry, jokes will be part of the show.

P/s - Jom Draft! text me when ur free, think we're gonna need like YM

Haha yea, we shud do a really cool video. :) For me, i would prefer
some serious cool lines and scenes, instead of some really lame
"trying too hard to be funny" jokes like people "1-2-jus-ing" instead
of fighting (M107 video).
Maybe we can introduce the event organizers as "training programs"
like sabree says. The training programs are placed throughout time,
maybe icebreakers in the stone age..etc. This way the juniors will
have some idea about the time-event-progression thing.
So maybe we can show the junior hopping time to time training under
the event organizers in their respective time frame. Like maybe when
the junior reaches "treasure hunt", he jumps into a short scene in
national treasure or indiana jones and is asked to remove a golden cup
from a stone block.

For the last scene of the video, i was thinking, maybe after he has
undergone all the training and wakes up, we put the scene back to
Morpheus-ish-guy (maybe our president) sitting by a chair with a
secretary standing beside him and looking into a file.

Last scene :

*silent*
(camera behind president who is sitting on chair, with the secretary
who is standing with a file)
Secretary : Subject number 001, orientation complete..... Who is next?
(president slowly turns behind and looks sharply into the camera, and
slowly points towards the camera, which means towards the juniors who
are watching this video)
President : ....them.
*terminator soundtrack comes in - tadumm dum dum dum..*

Nice one Justin.. U guys, need not to worry!! Hakim and Sabree are the
best pairing ever for a video maker in IMU!! Definitely i've seen
Hakim's work which were tremendous and Sabree.. You've got the ideas
bro!! Back to the topic.. Since I dont log in to this group as often
as u guys, I might need a bit of clarification.. Overall, are we going
to make 3 movies? Is it 2 for intro and one for finale night? Based on
what've been discussed, I believe we've got one good plot.. But, for
justin's idea, (which is superb!!) r we gonna use costumes in any
way.. It's important to get the mood, but it's gonna be costly as
well, right..

and yeahh...i think to carry this whole thing out...we have to dress
accordingly to give them the feeling. for Matrix..my friends n i kinda

coat..but like what karim said...i dun think its gonna be cheap too if
we rent costumes. perhaps..an alternative to that would be to source
around..asking friends if they have anythin or if we have anything
that would look like the costume in the video(doesntnecessaril have to
look EXACTLY like the real thing...but..u know...improvising)

BTW PPL I NEED UR DETAILED BUDGET(can be a close estimation) !!! SRC
wants a copy! not the one in the proposal but something more detailed
plsss... ASAP k? i need to look through and also compile and
summarisse it..so plssss i really really really need the budget k! =)

Let's try and clear some doubts here

1) Gratitude
Thanks to everyone who has shared their views, others r encouraged to
do so as we speak. I'm sorry Sharon, but i shouldn't be d one credited
for that 'small suggestion', it was Justin's idea. All credits to you
man (but i wouldn't want to scare off them juniors before the
orientation starts, with Terminator theme song..hehehe). And for
Karim, thanks a lot, that was very flattering indeed, but we'll try to
keep up to those expectations...(Aalamaaak as our Dr Achike says it)


2) Number of videos
- There are only 2 videos to be completed before orientation
(according to plans so far)
(#1) 'Welcome-to-IMU' video
(#2) introducing the committee video

- There will also be another video (#3) just to compile photos and
videos taken during orientation, but don't worry about that yet.


3) Plot & Draft
It is interesting how we are discussing about the plot. Now this is
what i could summarize from your ideas (adding some of my own). It's
not the 'final' plot, ok, so keep on suggesting.

(Video #1 STARTS)----->A junior (J) walks into IMU, greets a senior
(S), who starts to sing a song. As the song plays, J is introduced to
various locations in IMU and there are IMU students dancing like a
musical in the background. The song ends, and J is seen dancing with
eyes closed humming the melody of the song. J realizes that it was
just a dream. S is still there looking puzzled and S says, " I'm
sorry, do you want to ask me something?". J blushes. J gets the
direction but on her/his way there J saw someone disappeared as he
ran. J then bumps to someone and faints.

[Screen goes black. Scenes of 'evil plan' flashes, then screen blinks
on again].

S is seen as J wakes up but now S is in a different suit. Then S
says "Hello, and welcome again to IMU. We have saved you from the
agents,. I'm sure you've seen their sinister plan "something" .We need
ur help, because only you could help us to save this place" J says,
"Why me?? and who are you people?" (a few people are seen in the
background). S replies " We are the keepers, destined to save this
university...we will help train u...*names orientation

activities*...etc etc. Sheep? or Wolf? Decide."

[Screen suddenly goes black, with a text "..to be continued". Text
changes to "Too past, Too Futurious". A background music plays as more
messages appears, "Join the orientation, and find out how you could
save IMU". Then a voice says, "Sheep? or Wolf? Decide."]<-------- (END
of Video #1)


(Video #2 STARTS)----->Agents are seen acting like gangsters. [change
scene] J asks, " So how can i defeat those agents?" S replies, "Follow
me". They disappear.

[J is taken to different places, of maybe different ages and is
trained by the keepers for different skills]

[Fighting scene - J tries to stop the evil plans and almost fails. The
keepers come in and help. They win]
Maybe at the end, as everyone is happy and walking together, S looks
back and his eyes changes colour showing that he's one of them now!
[Screen suddenly goes black]

[Credits. Now each event organizer is introduced with name and event
each organizes, with scenes where he/she acts at the

4) Money

VERY cool ideas! I can imagine how the video's going to turn out with
everyone in it. Haha!

I like Justin's 'small suggestion' for the 2nd Video very much! I
think by introducing our event organizers as the Junior travels from
one time zone to the other (something like the concept of Mervyn in
the Death Certificate), the video becomes more relevant and cohesive,
rather than it being jumbled up so badly that it'll leave M208 puzzled
by the time the video ends! Lol. And like Sharon and Karim says, we
really need to get the costumes and setting spot on or the mood and
purpose of the movie will be lost! This means one thing - preparation
for the video has to start very early, from the plot all the way to
the costumes of the event organisers. I don't think we need to rent
costumes, if we can source the clothings out now (ie. Morpehus' coat,
Indiana Jones' fendora hat and whip etc) we'll have more flexibility
later on. Plus, if we take the initiative to make proper costumes
(unlike one or two scenes in ME108's orientation video), the juniors
will know that we really mean business and take our events (like Dress
Code, which needs lots of costume preparation etc.) seriously.

I was thinking about Video 1, is it supposed to be a means of
introducing M208 to their orientation, Too Past Too Futurious? Or is
it just to welcome them to IMU? Hakim and Sabree, it's your call =)

Hey everyone,

WOW! Am really blown away by all the ideas u all hv put forward..
brilliant man :D so sorry i've been silent for quite awhile.. been
really on the go this hol. but yea, i've been keeping track of our
discussions as much i can, n i gotta say, the video sounds like it's
gonna be one crazy good one :)

By the way, Hakim, after reading yr summary of e video plot so far,
just had a thought.. while the junior goes through all the training
activities, maybe we can show in some way how his "points" are
increasing? just thinking along my scorekeeper line.. haha.. can do
that a few ways:
1. maybe one of those green digital displays showing his points
increasing at the top corner of the screen, ala pc games..
2. or maybe another take of this screen the "President"'s (or some
higher authority's) office, where the "President''s monitoring the
junior's performance and we have the junior's points going up on a
nearby screen..
3. or... a take of this computer whiz guy keeping track of the
junior's score in this very high-tech type of room with lots of knobs
and controls?

Haha.. Just some thoughts.. What say everyone? :)

previously Kim.. So, for the 2nd video, we can use settings from
movies perhaps as the background.. Huhu, example.. use scene from Ice
Age for the Ice Breaker.. Then scene from National Treasure for
Treasure Hunt.. Bole ke Kim?

It's alrite..the VPs have got central roles already...well, if you
refuse to hog the limelight, we could use the 'first-person' camera
technique...that way, you don't have to act that much, and your face
won't have that much publicity in front of the camera.. :b
