this has been a pain to try and find but here goes

my father used to be a compare in the 50's, 60's, and he still now does the
odd song on stage, but at 78 years young he gets a bid muddle with his
lyrics, one of his fav songs is called MARDI GRAS but he can't remember who
sang it originally or when so I'm trying to find out, the song starts with
the lyrics :-
"mardi gras, the town's alight because tonight the worlds a crazy masquerade
mardi gras, in every street the dancing feet are joining in the big parade,
near and far, the motley crowd are merry-making, having care-free, gay time
life or playtime,
nobody cares who or what you are, whether you're clown or peiro or you're a
hero".
sorry that's all I can remember, but it's an up-beat song sung by a man,
sounds a bit like a show tune
any ideas ??
thanks in advance

Hello All, I used to be a resident drummer back in the 60s and there were lots of people singing this song. Sung By David Whitfield. I have not yet been able to track down the lyrics but will post them in here when I do. Here's the link to D.W. singing Mardi Gras...https://youtu.be/RoRLovO4QjQ

B side to David Whitfields cover of 'Rags To Riches'.
Stanley Black lets it all out in this great vehicle for David's superb tenor voice. It has the feel of a show tune and composer Eric Maschwitz did compose for the stage, maybe this was a number that

Thank you for providing the answer to this question! My Grandad passed away in April and we found an old tape where at the very end he was singing a song and with a lot of googling of the lyrics I could make out of him singing it brought me here to the answer! Thank you - I'm going to try and find an instrumental version of it now so I can add my Grandad singing on top of it :)
