I can't find fingerprint sensors settings in Ubuntu 22.04 installed on my notebook (XPS 13 Dell). I've tried "settings > Users", but there is no fingerprint option there. Do I have to install separately or it is provided by Ubuntu 22.04?

I'm also running the same setup and had the same issue but the fix is pretty straightforward. First of all makes sure that the OS recognises that the fingerprint sensor exists. You can do this by running

If you get any dependency errors just apt install the relevant dependency and try again. After you install everything you should be able to see a fingerprint option appear in the Users settings. According to the original source there is a reboot necessary.

Multiple users ( including myself ) have reported this to work now, so I think the packages will be part of 22.04 soon, just keep an eye on the bug (they are in the proposed channel now, which you can enable to test too).

[update]A fix has been released as a result of the bug report. Make sure to read it and see if your problem is solved. A full update should give you a working setup if you were affected by the bug[/update]

I have also tried fingerprint GUI and have some missing package metadata error and corrupted package even after compiling the git repository. I have also tried scanning the hardware but no results in fingerprint id. As per the windows drivers, I was able to look into it and the device seemed to be elan micro-technologies. Please help

I frequently have the fingerprint reader stop working. My workaround is to open the device manager as administrator, uninstall the device (without deleting the driver) and scan for hardware changes.

It seems to be a driver issue, that the driver crashes.

Driving Privilege Card (DPC) holders must submit a completed applicant fingerprint card and photograph upon renewal, duplicate, or original application to the Driver License Division. The fingerprint card and photo are required only once if provided on or after July 1, 2011.

Prior to visiting the Driver License office, you will be required to obtain the completed fingerprint card and photograph from one of the law enforcement agencies (click the button above to see a list.)

Upon the renewal, duplicate, or original application of the DPC, the Driver License Division will collect and verify the fingerprint card, photograph, and identity documents, social security card (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN), proof of Utah residency, appropriate licensing fees, and a $20.00 fingerprint process and storage fee. Once approved, submitting the fingerprint card and photograph will only be required one time. Please be aware that any document appearing to be tampered with will be rejected.

The Bureau of Criminal Identification will maintain the fingerprint card and notify the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security if a new entry is made in the applicable state and regional database if the person is involved in an arrest under state law involving a felony or the law enforcement agency that is directed to execute a warrant of arrest if an outstanding warrant of arrest is issued against the person.

I changed line 17 to reference the ACPI\FTE4800 value from Device Manager and was able to install the driver normally (though I had to enable unsigned driver installation, since I modified the driver files and thus broke their signature).

I have created an ekyc application in windows form application (c#) in which finger is scanned with one device named as FM220 . What I want to do? I have to create a setup file with Device driver. So when I run setup file , it also install my driver.

The idea is to put the drivers as part of your installation procedure, or even as part of your application startup. You'll have to consider things like permissions, etc. It's quite hard to answer your question with the detail provided at the moment. I think these resources should get you on the right track.

I have found that none of the e6xxx latitudes are supported by dell for windows 10. I have had a myriad of issues with this line and windows 10. I have come to the conclusion that these will live on windows 7 until they die.

have you tried installing the driver in compatibility mode i havent tried it yet i have the same laptop with the same problem windows 10 lets me set up the finger print but i cannot log in using the reader it says finger print not recognized its a shame dell wont create a win 10 driver because these laptops are really good i have a ssd in mine

So recently I have installed a version of Windows 11 through the Dev channel on both my desktop and my laptop. My laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad 14 15ARE) has a fingerprint reader (ELAN WBF) which I used occasionally. But since I updated the driver through the Lenovo site. That seemed to work, but only after I put the laptop to sleep. When I restart the laptop the option to sign in with my fingerprint seems to be gone...

@DennisWin Nothing.. I cannot even load the Drivers for it.. As I said this fingerprint reader is from 2004. I did a clean install of windows 10, and there were no drivers for it.. I couldn't get it to work, so there are no old fingerprints. Would be nice if you could explain how you got it to work. I am sure a whole bunch of us would appreciate it.

@The_MartianSo I am running Windows 11. It always worked in Windows 10. My Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkbook 14s, so it is newer than 2004. As soon as I updated to 11, it stopped working. I updated the drivers but it still didn't work. I went into the Hello config and tried re-recording my fingerprint but it would never finish and complain. When I read this post, I noticed it wasn't very long, so I went back into Hello config and removed fingerprinting and rebooted. I then added fingerprinting again and rescanned my finger. This time the scan went further, and further and finally finished. I think Windows 11 scanned more of the finger to get the sides and all around. Now it works every time.

Under the provisions of the USA Patriot Act (Public Law 107-56, 1012), rules of the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) (49 CFR Part 1572) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) (Title 49 of Code of Federal Regulation 383.71(a)(9)), the Iowa DOT'st motor vehicle offices may not issue a hazardous materials endorsement (HME) until the applicant has first submitted to a fingerprint-based background check. TSA must determine that the applicant does not pose a security threat before the endorsement can be issued. No person applying for a first-time or new HME on or after Jan. 31, 2005, may be issued a HME until the background check is completed. The fingerprint-based background check also applies to commercial drivers every five years seeking to retain their HME, regardless of the expiration date of their underlying commercial license.

Step 1 - Filling out the application

You should complete the TSA HAZPRINT driver application on the Hazardous Material Endorsement Enrollment website or by calling the HazPrint help desk at 855-347-8371. The operator at the help desk will guide you through the process and ensure the application is completed correctly. You can also call the help desk at any time if you have questions about the website. It is important to note that the application must be completed, either online or through the help desk, prior to arriving at the fingerprint capture location. It cannot be done at the fingerprinting site.

Included with the application process is the payment of a $86.50 fee. You may pay by credit/debit card or eCheck (must be a company or business check) directly on the website or by providing this information to the operator at the Help Desk. Electronic payments are the most secure and convenient and will save time at the fingerprint collection site. For those drivers who choose not to pay electronically, the driver must bring a money order in the amount of $86.50, made out to IDEMIA, to the fingerprint collection site. Remember, whatever payment method is chosen, you must complete the application online or by calling the help desk in advance of being fingerprinted, as the fingerprint collection site cannot fingerprint a driver who has not completed the HAZPRINT application and paid the $86.50 fee.

NOTE: The fingerprint capture location only collects and forwards the electronic application and fingerprints. They do not have specific information about the program, nor will they receive status reports after the submission is made.

Based on the data provided on the HAZPRINT application, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will perform a threat assessment for each driver applicant. The results of this assessment will be provided directly to the state department of transportation. The applicant will also receive a letter from TSA with the results of the assessment. Take this letter to the driver's license examiner as it will indicate that you have been cleared for issuance of the hazardous material endorsement.
