Hello to those interested in the Fairbrass family,

This is a transcription of documents submitted to the Supreme Court in Wellington after Thomas Fairbrass died in the bush during March 1853. These documents are held at the New Zealand Archive in Wellington.

Southern District

[the first line of text is lost. It could have read: I Ann Fairbrass of the Porirua Road]….near Wellington in the said District swear that to the best of my knowledge information and belief my late Husband Thomas Fairbrass departed this life intestate and that I have searched among his papers and effects and have not found any Will or paper writing purporting to be a disposition of his property. And I further swear that to the best of my knowledge information and belief the Estate Effects and Credits of the deceased to be administered by me are under the value of Fifty pounds that I will exhibit unto this Court a true full and perfect Inventory of the Estate Effects and credits of the deceased on or before the eleventh day of July and state that I will submit a true account of my Administratorship on or before the eleventh day of April one thousand… [these words are lost: eight hundred and fifty four?].

And I do hereby certify that the before Affidavit was first read over by me to the within named Ann Fairbrass and that she seemed to understand the same, and made her mark thereto in my presence

Ann Fairbrass of the Porirua Road the widow of the abovenamed deceased and Administratrix of [these words are lost: the before mentioned?] Estate maketh oath and saith that the Inventory marked A and hereunto annexed is a true and perfect Inventory of all the Estate Effects and Credits of the deceased which has come into my possession or into the possession of any other person by my order or for my use

I, Robert Cole, M.A. of Wellington, a Clergyman of the Church of England swear that I knew Thomas Fairbrass when alive and that the said Thomas Fairbrass was resident at Johnsonville near Wellington within this District and that the said Thomas Fairbrass died out in the Bush in the Kinapora District near Wellington within the said Southern District on or between the fourteenth and seventeenth days of March 1853.
