It's strange that I told Faith Batson there was a link to New Zealand. MY father had an uncle who had a joiner's business there and wanted my mother to emigrate but she wouldn't go. My father was a joiner, as is my brother - a fantastic one. Alas, the end of the line for them.

I have quite a bit more info Lynda on the Maclean's plus a few photos which I have found. Are you interested in having the extra info and photos? Is so I will send them via your email address if you let me have it. Hope you are keeping well, the weather here in England now is COLD and WET, but then it is November. Best Wishes

Faith

My great, great grandfather was James McLean born 1830.

An aunt came over, a few years ago - Lizzie, I think her name was but will check with my cousin/sister-in-law. I didn't meet her but Maudie did and they went to Gourock to see relatives there and also, Maudie's father, Alex.

So good to find a the link to NZ

Regards
Sandra

Hi Sandra

So your g-g-grandfather James was my g-g-grandmother Isabella's brother.  We've always wondered why Isabella emigrated and if she had any contact with her family back in Scotland.

My cousin Cathreen did all our Scottish research and Faith also gave us information on her McLean descendancy.

Wonderful to have contact with cousins on the other side of the world!

Lynda

Sorry for delay in replying - always problems trying to get into Google.  I remember my father was going to emigrate to N.Z. to work with an uncle who had a carpenter's business  but, unfortunately, my mother wouldn't go.  I wish I had asked questions when the family was alive.
