Ittefaq (English: Coincidence) is a 1969 Indian mystery thriller film produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by his brother Yash Chopra. The film stars Nanda and Rajesh Khanna in the lead with Sujit Kumar, Bindu, Madan Puri and Iftekhar playing supporting roles and has music by Salil Chowdhury. The film became a "semi-hit" at the box office.[2] The film is based on 1965 American movie Signpost to Murder.[3] which was earlier adapted into a Gujarati drama Dhummas starring Sarita Joshi.[4]

The official announcement of the film was made in April 2016. The title of the film was said to be Ittefaq.[7][8] The film was shot on a 50-day non-stop schedule. Co-produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, B. R. Studios & Dharma Productions, Ittefaq released on 3 November. Ittefaq is an adaptation of a 1969 film with the same name, produced by B. R. Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra. The film starred Rajesh Khanna, Iftekhar and Nanda in lead roles. While Sidharth Malhotra reprised Khanna's character, Nanda's role is essayed by Sonakshi Sinha. Akshaye Khanna plays Iftekhar's role.[3] The film is directed by Abhay Chopra, grandson of BR Chopra, the producer of the original film. The makers of the film decided that the movie will not be promoted at any platform.[9] But before the release they came out with a campaign on Digital Media, requesting viewers not to disclose the culprit after watching movie.

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 89% based on nine reviews, with an average rating of 5.92/10.[12] India Today reviewed "Sidharth-Sonakshi's murder mystery will keep you on your toes".[13] The Indian Express stated the movie as "a smart, gripping whodunit".[14] Deccan Chronicle called the movie "A crackling whodunnit".[15]

He is always magnificent!!!! I am so happy that he switched to being a character actor instead of just a boring lead actor. Carries the whole movie in a bunch of different ways, giving us someone to root for, someone to entertain us, someone to sort of make this whole crazy world seem sane.

This is a movie written from the ending backwards; meaning, everything from character motivations, to character continuum, to your feelings for those murdered and your sense of justice are all sacrificed for that last bit of wallop at the end!

But having teased you with this minor, throwaway frustration, I must tell you that the movie works because director Abhay Chopra knows how to tell a story visually. And so he makes the script look and play better than it deserves to.

Ittefaq starring Sonakshi and Sid was a pretty decent thriller, and had some good performances by the lead cast. I know it's kind of underrated and it didn't perform well at the box office, but did you like the movie?

Ittefaq stars Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles and is an official remake of the 1969 movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Nanda of the same name. The movie just borrows the central premise of the original movie and adds more layers and situations to the original script. To be honest, I went for this movie without any expectations. Movies which are remade mostly can never match the original movie and just a plain copy and paste from the original movie serves no purpose here. But I was rather surprised to find this movie so engaging with a really unusual cast in place. It managed to keep me guessing what would happen at the end and kept me invested. If a movie especially of a genre like a thriller, manages to achieve this, then half of its job is done.

The movie benefits from the taut and crisp script. The writers do not put in any pauses or drama into this thriller and keep everything to the point . The actors do their job decently with Akshaye Khanna surely standing out with a remarkable performance. There are no songs in this movie and coming from a production house like Dharma this looks quite unbelievable. However full marks to them for focusing only on the story and characters. The movie keeps you guessing till the very end and manages to keep you at the edge of your seats. Although few parts might seem a bit flawed, however on the whole it is a very sensible and well made thriller which keeps the viewer invested totally. The twist at the end is also really interesting.

This is a well made thriller that Bollywood has produced after a long time. Also a well made remake of an old movie which has managed to match to its predecessor.Kudos to the makers for not letting out much of the story in the form of promotions or social media posts. It is that kind of a movie where you will go without expectations but come out from it super impressed. Surely content is the king and this is only change forward.

Akshaye Khanna might have found his niche as the young Jim Gordon of Mumbai. Ittefaq-ly (coincidentally) his previous work in Mom and his current iteration of a hardened yet human cop are excellent showcases of his layered acting and ability to carry a movie with nothing more than a series of glances, smiles, deliberate footsteps and intimidating stances.

The marketable duo of Siddharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha, while stellar when interacting with each other, are slightly exposed when sharing screentime with Khanna. Malhotra and especially Sinha overact just a tad too much in a movie that prides itself on maintaining a consistent mood and darkly humorous tone.

The movie is 100 minutes long and has no songs. But, the makers recently shot for a promotional song with Sonakshi and Sidharth which was wrapped last night thus completing the whole shoot of the film.
