In fact, with a little know-how and some practice, almost anyone can produce a professional-quality voice over for a video. All you have to keep in mind are the key elements that make a voice over stand out:
The best voice overs have a natural and deliberate pace, which is why you should always write a script (and practice it!) before you start recording as this will help you speak naturally. You should also remember that pacing includes things like pausing now and then to take a breath, either for effect or to give the listener a break to process important information.
Not all videos need a ton of preparation. Quick one-off screencasts or a fast demonstration of a new user interface for a colleague can probably be done on the fly. But, for videos where you want a more polished look or need to cover more information, a bit of preparation goes a long way.
What we will say, however, is you should definitely avoid recording your voice ovesr on your laptop microphone, if possible. While built-in mics are fine for the likes of Zoom meetings, even a low-cost external microphone will be better for a video voice over.
The best scripts will include everything you intend to say, word for word. Taking the time to write this out before recording helps ensure that you will cover everything you want to without the risk of wandering off into unrelated topics.
While you might find it useful to make some notes to remind yourself of something you want to edit later on, you should try and focus on listening to the overall pacing and tone of your recording on the first listen.
I am a new user and am trying to use the voice over recorder function. However, when I play back the recording my voice is always breakding up and has weird vibration in it. I use different external microphone to no avail. One thing I notice is during the voice recording the dB leve is below -36 but during play back it jumps as high as -6. The weird part is if I start a new project and record some test voice over, the first one doesn't have problem but the subsequent ones do. What might be causing this and how to fix? Thank you in advance.
We have problems sometimes with weird distortions of voiceovers. It seems that selecting "Adobe Desktop Audio" as the audio device in the "Playback" tab in Premiere preferences fixes it, tho I don't know how stuff deep in these menus gets changed around in the first place. We use Mac towers.
Audacity is proudly open source. This means its source code remains open to anyone to view or modify.
A dedicated worldwide community of passionate audio lovers have collaborated to make Audacity the well-loved software it is today. Many third-party plugins have also been developed for Audacity thanks to its open source nature.
Not sure because it works for me. Interesting that you get static that means something is happening instead of immediate failure. It might have an audio format incompatibility with the library we use. Try using Windows builtin recorder or another program to verify recording works.
Quickly and easily record voice notes that you can download or share via a link with your colleagues and customers. In the age of remote working it has never been more important (or easier!) to record voice memos and internal team communications that you can share with multiple people with a single click. Colleagues and customers can even leave comments on your voice recording, making collaboration and feedback an even more fluid process
Hi, I'm looking for a solution to record voice-over using the Capture Tool, so that the editor can log/mark it as it's recorded. The Audio Punch-In Tool can be annoying as you need to have a sequence etc...
Will, the cheesy hardware of a Realtek or Soundblaster will always be noisy, and induction/white/static noise will increase depending on how many internal hard drives Your system has: the more disks the more noise; moreover, if You happen to record Your voiceover in the same room where the computer is, very likely, You're actually recording the noise of Your equipment fans too; the room You're in will introduce some sort of noise too; the mic matters too; this is why I assumed scratch recording. As for changing the sound card with a better one, way more better than a Soundblaster if I may, this may help but still You'll get fans and room noise, and, most of all, MC is picky about audio hardware, how do You feel about purchasing an high end, expensive audio card that may not even work with Avid? jm2c
Video is an amazing way to deliver information. And in many cases, adding a voice over to your video makes a lot of sense, especially in a business setting. Voice overs add that extra human touch without having to actually record footage.
Thanks to affordable, high-quality microphones and all-in-one video making apps, adding a voice over to a video is a lot easier than it used to be. But there are a few common mistakes newcomers often make.
Most smartphones have a default voice recording app, but these apps are designed for recording quick voice memos. They usually lack the sound monitoring and audio editing capabilities needed for a voiceover.
Even the free version of a professional voice recorder gives you more control over your recording and better editing capabilities. Audacity, TechSmith Audiate, Podcastle are good, free voice recorders.
Importing your voice over into your video editing software is the same as uploading a soundtrack. The buttons may be in different places depending on the software, but it is all essentially the same process.
The last step is to preview your video to make sure that everything lines up properly between your voice over audio and the video itself. If it looks good and sounds good, send your video into the world to do its magic.
A good voice over is extremely important because the quality of your voice over can make or break your video. A high-quality voice over adds a layer of professionalism, as well as greater depth, context, and a personal touch. A poor-quality voice over has the opposite effect; it makes your video seem sloppy and rushed.
During the three weeks we spent away from our home studio, we gave voice to dozens of audio projects: an in-flight safety announcement for a major airline, a national TV campaign for a furniture and home accessories retailer, corporate videos for companies in and out of Brazil, and case studies for advertising agencies, to name a few. Each project posed unique challenges, but we managed to deliver with speed and quality in every case.
When I was picking out the travel gear, I kept two important goals in mind:
1) Most importantly, I wanted the setup to have a clean studio quality sound.
2) I wanted each item to take up as little space as possible. For this setup, I was going for small and basic.
Here are the six main components of my voice over travel setup (and why I chose them):
Narrations, ink, and laser pointer: Record your voice as you run through your presentation. If you use the pen, highlighter, eraser, or laser pointer, PowerPoint records those for playback as well.
After setting up the recording track (following your excellent tutorial) and coming to the point where I have to click on "arm to record" the second time the words are this time around ghosted while "INPUT" is nowhere to be seen and the only way to show arm to record and see INPUT listed too, is to shutdown Vegas. This will take me over 15 minutes each time. I have an animator friend living nearby who had already figured this out in V18 or maybe even earlier, otherwise I would have never guessed. I'm on V-19 PRO EDIT (build 381).

You may want to use PowerPoint or Google Slides to add voiceover to each slide that plays as students make their way through the presentation. PowerPoint has recording functionality built-in, but with Google Slides, some extra steps are involved with recording your audio, then uploading it to Google Drive before you can embed it on each slide.
Camtasia is an all-in-one screen recorder and video editor that works on both Windows and Mac. It is one of the most widely used systems for screen recording and video editing. It is popular for its user-friendly interface and simple video editing.
Hit record, and start talking with your mouth 5 inches from the microphone. Listen back to how it sounds. Try getting closer to the mic, then try moving further away. Listen to how it affects the tone of your voice and find your favourite position.
When it comes to EQ, subtlety is key. Never boost or cut more than 5dB, otherwise you can quickly ruin your voice over. 3dB is usually more than enough. Experiment and use your ears. Remove the bad stuff and exaggerate the good stuff.
When working with voice overs I always request wave (at least 16bit 44.1kHz) but quite often get a file that started life as an mp3. This is because some voice overs record in mp3 format and then convert into wave.
