The Eater of Worlds is a pre-Hardmode Corruption-themed worm boss. It is summoned using Worm Food from within The Corruption or Underground Corruption, or by destroying 3 Shadow Orbs that spawn in Corruption worlds. It can be summoned at any time of day.

The Eater of Worlds is a pre-Hardmode Corruption-themed worm boss. It is summoned using Worm Food from within the Corruption and Underground Corruption, or by destroying 3 Shadow Orbs that spawn in Corruption-filled worlds. It can be summoned at any time of day. Do note that Eater of Worlds shoots vile spit in Expert and Master mode.

In the case of worlds like Terraria, it might make alterations to the base noise function to make certain things "work" or "feel right". Those alterations can be saved per-chunk on another layer of data that overrides the default noise generated terrain - similar to how a game would save any changes made by the player, directly to each chunk of data.

It appears that, in larger worlds, resources are much farther apart from each other in comparison to the smaller world types. This means that in smaller worlds, resources are much easier to locate and mine - see the map viewer fragments in the gallery below for comparison. On a large map, corruption can, although rare, stretch down far underground, potentially reaching close, or to, the Underworld.
