Iknow I can redeem a code on sims online but then surely would it not just require origin to download still?
If I have the actual discs for the expansion packs can I add that without needing origin?
@laubee If you have everything on disc, and your base game disc was manufactured prior to September 2012, you can install entirely via disc with no need for Origin. The newer base game discs do require Origin to be installed, and it's possible some very new (maybe from 2019) pack discs do too, although I don't know for sure. (There have been a couple reports, nothing definitive.) And of course if you buy a pack digitally, you'll need to use Origin to install it.
I redeemed all but one code that wouldn't redeem on Origin. It would redeem on the Sims website though. So I'm confused on how you download it from the Sims website because its not showing up on Origin. Help please! Thanks!
Before I had Origin, I had multiple Sim's Expansions and the base game all on my desktop.
To download it, just put the disk in, and go to the start button (usually in the bottom left corner) and press 'Computer'*.
Once that loads, there will be a Circle with a color in it, also including the trademark Sim's plumbob.
Press that until an installation screen shows up. Go through the installation process, and it'll show a screen that tells you to enter a serial code. That is on the inside of the box in a little pamphlet. It's usually on the back. Afterwards, it'll download. When you want to play and you have finished the download, take the expansion disk out and put the base game back in. There you go! You have your new expansion downloaded and ready to play.
If you do end up using Origin's fantastic system (I put ALL my games in it, I love the convenience), simply open the Origin application on your desktop, then take your games from the desktop screen to the "My Games" section of the application.
*Please note that I do have a PC, so I wouldn't know how to do it with a Mac. My apologies. :c
if you have the games regestired then you if you haven't already you need to downloa dorigin to your computer onc eorign is downloaded and installed you log into the orign shortcut on the desktop right clcik-ooen log in with the email and password you yuo used for the account then you will see the mygames tab for your games to downlaod and install
Sorry I got back to you all so late. For the first replier, the problem is that I don't have a disk. It was just a code. For the second replier, I told you, it wouldn't show up on Origin. I tried logging in and out and closing the application and starting it up again. It didn't work.
Currently, I have purchased all of my Sims 3 expansions on a disc. However, due to moving several times, I have lost some of the games in the unpacked stuff in the garage. Through the magic of game key retrieval on my old computer, I have registered the missing expansions on my Origin account but there is one left - University Life. It is 10 cheaper on Steam than origin, so I naturally want to buy it at the cheaper price point.
However, I don't own the sims 3 on steam and don't want to negate the cheaper price by having to purchase the base game. If I purchase the DLC as a gift for a friend (my partner) can I simply get the game key off of them and register it myself on Origin? Or can I register my base sims 3 on steam to enable myself to register it on origin?
I have bought several Sims games and expansions recently on Origin, Disks, and Steam. At this point I've purchased about 10 Steam versions of the Sims games and expansions (since I'm buying for 2 players), and FYI: all Steam Sims games and expansions/Stuff packs come with their own CD Key which can be used to register the steam-purchased copies on Origin, and allow you to download the Origin version as well. Thus the key is not "only redeemable" on steam.
However, I can't figure out how to install my sims3 expsansion packs from origin through winehq. Usually on Windows's I'm able to play my sims 3 after installation without origin being open. (Without running/having origin open)
However, if you install WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator), it allows you to run Windows programs and the necessary drivers, system files, and whatnot that you might need to run the program. I had a Windows game I attempted to run under WINE, and it was very laggy and the Framerate was awful.
my wife is using Sims4 on her mac and it works fine. However recently she purchased some update and there is no way in **** to have it installed. While Origin app is open i can find expansion pack and it shows as owned. However, in order to use it i need to download it first. And this is where problems starts. When clicking download nothing happens. I've googled possible resolutions and nothing works. Tried deleting the cash, reinstalling game and Origin. Started system in safe mode. Tried root access to origin app. nothing works.
EA has released an introductory article on the new Sims 3 Expansion and Stuff Pack Manager. In the blog below you can familiarize yourself with the new launcher system available to players who download the latest Sims 3 update available later today.
The Sims 3 Expansion and Stuff Pack Manager is included as part of the latest The Sims 3 game update, only for Windows PCs. To download the game update you will need to register your The Sims 3 game and packs on Origin using an EA Account and accept the updated End User License Agreements. This update is not available for Mac.
In either case, before completing the installation, you will be presented with End User License Agreements which you must accept to install the update. After accepting the End User License Agreements, Origin will update your The Sims 3 game to the latest version.
If you have any problems installing The Sims 3 game update, uninstall The Sims 3 and reinstall via Origin. Origin will provide you with the latest version of The Sims 3 with no additional updates required.
Before making your selection, install all of the Expansion and Stuff Packs you own. Only packs that you have installed will display in the Pack Selector. Once all of your packs are installed, locate the ones you want to play with, then check the checkbox next to the pack. Once you finish making your selections, press the Play button to launch The Sims 3 with the desired Expansion and Stuff Packs selected.

With this tool you can unlock DLCs for your legit game. Some DLCs require additional files. You won't be able to download them through Origin/EA app/Steam (unless you actually buy them), you need to use the links below!
Features:DLC unlockingbypassing region locks for game languages no longer works because now EA does the check in EA app, not in the game itself; as a workaround you can get the game from Steam or Epic Games - the only downside is that you will have to use two game launchers at once, because they still run the game through EA app
Download and extract EA DLC Unlocker. (Special note for Sims players since googling "how to extract 7z file" is too hard for some of you - install 7-zip or WinRAR, right click on the downloaded file and select "Extract here". Depending on your options it may be under "7-zip" or "WinRAR" submenu.)Run setup.bat. (Special note for Sims players since I'm tired of hearing "but how do I run the setup.bat file?" - the same way you run any program or game on your PC - by double clicking on it.)Select "Install" to install the Unlocker. The script automatically detects if you have EA app or Origin installed. If you have both it will detect EA app only and game started from Origin won't have the DLCs unlocked! If this happens reinstall Origin and run the script again or use the manual installation instructions in the readme file.Select "Add/Update game config" and select the game.Download DLC files if needed - see the links below. (Special note for Sims players - YES, you need the DLC files. DLC Unlocker doesn't download anything.)
On Linux the only difference is that you run setup_linux.sh (try double clicking on it - if that doesn't work run it from the terminal) and if you have multiple wine/proton prefixes with EA app installed - you select which one to use. Then you get the same menu as on Windows, so follow the instructions above from the second step forwrads.
When a game gets a new DLC check if I added it to the Unlocker. There's a changelog in the second post of CS RIN thread. If it's a DLC for The Sims 4 then the game config should automatically update when you restart Origin/EA app. If it's a DLC for a different game - redownload the Unlocker and add the game config again. You can enable/disable automatic config updates in config.ini file.
When a game gets a new update - just update it. No need to touch the Unlocker.
When Origin gets a new update - just update it. No need to touch the Unlocker.
When EA app gets a new update - update it and install the Unlocker again.
Huge thanks to acidicoala for help with the Unlocker!
Check the readme file for the manual installation instructions.
For games on Steam - if it says "Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA online activation and EA app software installation and background use required" on the Steam store page - this DLC Unlocker will work. If it doesn't say that - then it won't work.
