To use your microphone with apps on Windows 10, you'll need to turn on some permissions in Microphone settings. Then, you'll need to check your app permissions if you want to use your microphone with apps. Here's how:

download microphone for windows 10

Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone . In Allow access to the microphone on this device, select Change and make sure Microphone access for this device is turned on.

Once you've allowed microphone access to your apps, you can change the settings for each app. In Microphone settings, go to Choose which Microsoft apps can access your microphone, and turn on apps you want to use with it. For desktop apps, make sure that Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is turned on.

Regarding microphone not being detected, Microphone not detected on browser
on newer brave versions, from Release v1.29.79 and after. (Last version it works is Release v1.28.106)
It seems to be a chromium/chrome issue as it happens on them too. How can I report to them? And what are the chromium versions that are used?

It was not working for me. I had to do, first a setting in Windows Settings and a second setting in Brave browser then I tested the microphone in the site provided, see images.

I'm running a set of Bose Noise Cancelling 700 headphones and I've run into a serious problem - the mic doesn't work on Windows. The headphones are not recognised as an input device. There is no 'headset' option under 'Bluetooth & Other Devices'. The Bose NC700 seem to only be recognized as 'headphones' and the windows bluetooth settings states 'connected music', not 'connected voice'.

To use a condenser microphone with your PC, you need an audio interface (such as a mixer) that supports phantom power. Once you connect your computer to the interface and enable phantom power, connect the condenser microphone to the interface via an XLR cable. If you don't turn on phantom power, it could damage your battery.

To disable your microphone on Windows 11, go to Settings > System > Sound, choose your microphone, and then select Don't Allow in the Audio section. In Windows 10, select Manage sound devices, choose your microphone, and then select Disable.

If your Windows microphone isn't working, make sure the mic isn't muted and check your app permission settings. If the problem persists, right-click the speaker icon on the Windows taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems to run an automated troubleshooter.

Camera and Microphone are not working in Windows 11 or Windows 10. This issue is seen on every type of device including desktops, laptops, and tablets. It is not a problem with the peripherals or a bug in Windows. This is a result of the new privacy changes which Microsoft has implemented in the Windows 10 RS4 April 2018 Update and newer versions that is revoking access to devices such as the camera and microphone.

The privacy settings for camera and microphone in Windows 11 or Windows 10 might prevent apps and websites from using them. Privacy settings give you control over which apps and websites can use your camera or microphone.

I just purchased a Logitech C920 webcam to use with an external monitor for my Windows 11 laptop. The video works great, but the microphone isn't working. Zoom detects the webcam microphone and will use it as its audio source, but the result is silent. This is true both using the Test Microphone function in Settings as well as in a meeting. The webcam microphone works fine with the Windows Sound Recorder app, so it's not a hardware issue. Any suggestions for how to make it work in Zoom?

i used to have a c920 and now have a logitech brio. both worked fine with win 11 and zoom. please check the microphone volume setting. i have mine set to automatically adjust microphone volume. please see attached screenshot.

Quitting Chrome might not resolve the problem because it doesn't reset apps or extensions that use your microphone. To do this, restart Chrome Browser. When you restart Chrome Browser, your tabs and windows reopen.

Depending on your operating system and audio device, sounds that come from other browser tabs or applications may be heard by other participants. To avoid other sounds being picked up by the microphone, use headphones.

I have now gotten one system, out of 3 Windows 11 systems to get the microphone working. This morning I was using the Intel Driver assistant and possibly it installed some additional driver. Notice the Format and Test results.

My AirPods 3rd generation used to work fine on my laptop PC I use for work (Teams, etc.), but the AirPod Pro 3 microphone I had to buy recently simply DOES NOT work on Windows 11. I can only hear the sound. As soon as I activate the microphone, I can't hear any sound anymore. As soon as I select another microphone input, I can hear my music again.

I think I have finished my research. I never did get the microphone to work on two of my Windows 11 systems. I got a Bluetooth Wi-Fi dongle (5.0) on one and turned off the built-in Wi-Fi. The Pro 2 microphone works fine with that dongle using 1 Channel-16bit-8000Hz.

I mentioned earlier I got the microphone to work on one system. Today, after going through the hard reset process, after forgetting the device on my iPhone, I was able to get it working on another system. But, the first system quit working and I was not able to get it working.

So Possibly, the microphone in Windows is restricted to one install where the sound works on several. I have not finished that avenue of testing, but pairing the headset with another device may not allow the microphone to work on the new device until another hard reset process has been completed.

Hello,
My microphone volume is too low when I speak into it. I can barely see the volume bar moving for the microphone test. Things I have tried:-
1. Enabling the permissions in the microphone privacy settings.
2.Updating drivers. I used the amd clean up utility to delete the existing drivers, then I used the amd adrenalin software to install the drivers. I tried updating with device manager, but it would prompt that my device is using the best installed drivers. I also updated the realtek drivers using windows updates.
3.Updating windows to 11. My device was on windows 10 when I faced this issue. The microsoft drivers did update after this, but the issue still persists.
4.I tried updating the drivers on windows 11 using the method I mentioned in point 2.
5. I tried running following cmds :-
1. prompt
2. sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll
3. sfc /verifyfile=c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll
4. assoc
5. sfc /scannow
5.I tried following various youtube videos.
Weird thing I noticed is that the mic works on browser discord and on the mictests website, so I think this issue should be a software issue. I have spent several hours to fix this but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated on this!

After a Windows update at some point before September, I had the issue that if it updated, my Microphone would stop functioning. However, if I didn't update, Apps wouldn't function. I much preferred having a microphone, as I use it quite often to play games and such.

The issue is; I can't revert the windows update that *caused* the problem, as Windows 10 for some reason decided "You can't reverse updates before September now" on a whim, and I can't prevent updates either, so it just forced me to accept I now have a microphone that works just fine, but Windows just refuses to register any incoming noise from it.

I've got zero idea why it doesn't pick up anything, as it's been an issue with two different headsets now, and the microphones work just fine on their own. I know this for sure, as the headsets both have "Sidetone" that plays my voice back into the headset to prevent speaking loudly, and that absolutely works just fine on both headsets I've used. The only issue there really is, appears to me to be Windows being stubborn about it, with no real idea why it would be.

It might help to install the latest audio drivers for your onboard sound (most likely Realtek, but it could be something else depending on the hardware in your system). Even though your mic is a separate piece of hardware, an issue with the primary sound drivers could result in issues with other sound devices such as your microphone and there are known past issues with some updates to Windows 10 this year with some common onboard sound solutions.

I tried. Sadly, nothing happens. My headset is a wireless USB headset, but it never gave me any issues before that windows update. Undoing the update back then fixed my issue, too, so I know for sure it's not something to do with the headset itself, thankfully.

Yes, it definitely sounds like it was the update that caused the issue, I was just hoping that changing drivers or modifying settings might correct the problem. There was an update for Windows 10 a while back that caused issues for many users with Realtek onboard sound devices that was later fixed, and I'm thinking that this issue likely has a similar cause. If you haven't already, you might also check the options under the Communications tab, and while I know you said it's irrelevant, you do have a second input device enabled there for your TV, so if Windows is configured to mute other sounds when the listening device is in use and there is constant 'noise' coming in from the TV device, then that could theoretically cause Windows to mute all audio from your headset's microphone.
