After a year and a half using the Hawk in a S100 (ls1-f) I have gone trough a bit of ups and downs but with a positive balance. I still use sound on TE vario but I visually confirm with Hawk.

I upgraded in May and didn't get any yellow arrow, but I did not really care. Yesterday after releasing from tow I realize any Hawk indication is missing. No artificial horizon, no wind, no netto, still blue needle, etc... nothing worked.

I turned on and off on flight and nothing happened. After 1 hour flight it came back on its own but after a few minutes of normal use it started to go crazy, like over sensitive.

I disabled it because it was driving me a bit crazy with windspeeds of 190 kts and nettos of -20/+20 m/s and stupid things like that, constantly going bottom to top at the slightest change in vertical wind.

Not sure how you reset Hawk in a S100, but any advice is very much appreciatted.

Regards,

Enrique.

Dear Enrique,

I recommend that you send an email to in...@lxnav.com, where you’ll receive proper support directly from Uroš. He usually replies within 24 hours.

While we generally don’t handle support issues via forums, I’ll give you a few quick guidelines before you contact Uroš:

  1. Have you updated your S100 to the latest firmware version?

  2. Have you completed both required calibrations (including yaw calibration)?

Also, please note that you can generate a LOG file from the device, which you can email to us for detailed diagnostics and troubleshooting.

Honestly, I’m not sure why some pilots post these kinds of technical questions on forums. These are best handled by the manufacturer’s support team. Remember, when you purchase a device from LXNAV, you receive free customer support, which is included in the value of the product. We typically respond within 24 hours, 7 days a week. That level of service is what sets LXNAV apart from open-source alternatives.

Have a great day,
Toni

I will do, thanks.

I did the update, yes. I have not done tuning, but has always worked with no flaws.

I'll ask support too. Thanks.

Enrique.

The symptoms you are describing could have a root cause in leaky pneumatic plumbing and intermittent power supply. If the malfunctions happened at about the same time, some wires and tubing could have gotten yanked loose. Worth checking, although it is always fun to blame the programmer. They generally deserve it anyway.

I was leak checking at the time, using the S100 as the ASI for the leak check.  No leaks found.  The issue is reproducible with ease.  I was in touch with Paul and Uros about this but did not receive a meaningful answer.

Intermittent power supply would seem to be an implausible cause since the S100 contains a backup battery, and it was fully charged at the time.
