Found out today from Uros at LXNav that OAT on their system is measured with the V8.

There is no probe, just a temp sensor inside the V8.

Rest assured, I was not riding a hot thermal with 115 degrees fahrenheit outside! I had been running the FES motor, which happens to be inside the nosecone and therefore not far from the V8. The max temp for the motor is 90 deg centigrade (194 fahrenheit) and I've seen it as high as 75 deg Centigrade on hot days while I'm climbing.

Time for V8s to have a probe that one can place further back!

Are you sure you understood Uros? Perhaps things have changed, but if you look at the V8 harness in the installation manual there is a remote OAT sensor connected to ground and pin 2 on the V8 DB15 connector. I suppose things could have changed, but I'm positive my new-last-year LX9000 and slightly older V8 has a remote OAT sensor. I had some issues with an intermittent connection in the cable to the sensor that caused the OAT to read very cold: fixed that and the OAT started working. If I hold the sensor in my hand the temp goes up on the display. The shielded wire to the sensor is marked "OAT" in black-on-yellow heat shrink.

This is a replacement sensor.

Here is me holding the replacement behind the one that came with the harness.

Hi,

The V8's temperature probe is an external probe on a cable.  It sounds like you didn't install it.  It's probably bundled-up with unused digital input wired.  I recommend mounting it in the nose air vent ducts.

Hi Paul,

It sounds like the factory did not install it where they should have. I don't recall receiving any extra cables, but I guess they should nt be placing the probe where they did. I'll check with the factory as to where they may have placed it.

BTW, did Uros send you a replacement sensor for my V8? My V8 sensor, as per another thread here is shot, and I'm using IGC for altitude. You offered to replace it and Uros is ready to send you another one if you ordered it.

Thanks! Always fo helpful!
