FLARM Updates on LX90X0

With Version 9 of the LX90X0 and the WIFI module, you will likely be prompted to update your FLARM Firmware if it is not the current version 7.06.  If you choose download, the system downloads a file.  I tried on a FLARM Fusion and received an error message of bad file.  It is unclear if the LXNAV differentiates between the different firmware versions applicable to different FLARM hardware platforms.  I would suggest you upgrade directly to the FLARM device which should suppress the LXNAV update message.  The FLARMNET file and obstacle database updates via the LX90XO platform seem to be working fine.  The issue is with the different firmware versions.

Hi,

The LX90x0 can't update an external FLARM unit.  It can only update internal FLARM hardware - which is great for most of the world, but isn't sold in the USA because it doesn't have FCC approval and never will.  

The only way to update a PowerFLARM Core is using a USB flash drive.

When updating the FLARM and looking at the blinkie lights I always get a feeling of "Has it started yet?  Is it finished?" as time seems to slow down.

Its nice to have one of the LXNav FLARM displays (FLARM View, Traffic View) in your instrument panel allows you to know what is going on in real time.  Plus IGC file downloading status.

Paul - Which other displays (manufactured by whomever) gives you this same updating feedback?  How about FLARM IGC file downloading status? 

While the ClearNav and Oudie displays FLARM traffic they don't give you any update updating feedback or FLARM recorder IGC file download status - but I may be wrong on these points.

Finally, which, if any, panel displays allow you to change FLARM parameters?

Hi John,

I think only the LXNAV FlarmView and TrafficView allow you to monitor updates and downloads and edit range settings, etc.

When updating an external Flarm with an LX 90XX you can see the status of the FW update and the IGC file downloads by going to Hardware>Flarm.  No need to look for the blinking lights!
