All,

Does anyone know how to use the FlarmView 57 (connected to a powerflarm core) to create a Pilot generated event marker in the ICG file?

Mike,

I read through the FlarmView 57 manual and did not see any reference to generating a pilot event.

My understanding of the use of a pilot event's was during the days of the early flight recorders like the Volksloggers, Cambridges, and Colibris with their limited (and expensive) static memory.  Because of this limit pilots would only record at 4sec or longer intervals.  A pilot event would then only be used near a critical turnpoint to temporarily increase the rate of recording to 1sec.

Nowadays with the vastly increased memory in flight recorders you can run them full time at 1sec intervals.  So the need for a pilot event has been, to me, eliminated.  But you may have a different need.

My $0.02.

The event marker is now being used (optionally) at world and continental championships during the start.  It is my understanding that the latest FlarmView firmware supports this, not sure about FlarmView 57.  I used PEV on a Nano 3 which shares the same display and user interface as the rectangular FlarmView, the PEV is activated by pressing on the rocker switch for longer than 1s and shorter than 3s.  There is no feedback to the user whether PEV has been activated.  I don't know if this has been implemented on the FlarmView 57 or what the input would be.

The need for a marker for the competition was the reason for the request.

I have also searched the manuals for the Flarmview and found no mention of a PEV marking button or process.

However, both the Nano and the Nano4 will generate a PEV and start recording at 1Hz if the power button is briefly pressed.

So that means that all the Nano family have that function.

I also know that the Cambridge 302 has an input for a PEV switch.

Sorry, I have no answers, just comments;

Yes, all the RECORDERS (and others) that are mentioned here have a mechanism to create a PEV.  But the FlarmView is not a recorder.

You want the FlarmView (FV) to ask the FLARM Core (PF) recorder to create an internal PEV.  Certainly the FlarmView can talk to the PF.   So two questions;

1) Does the PF have a communications protocol so the FV can be asked to create a PEV?   Reach out to FLARM Technology Ltd to ask.
2) If the PF protocol exists, does the FlarmView firmware have this protocol implemented?   Reach out to LXNAV d.o.o. to ask.

Flarmview 57 will do event marking in the core flight log.

Going from memory here, but
go to
Setup
flarm
Event

You have to go through a bunch of steps to get to it in flight, but it is there.
