Hey gang.
The whole reason I did the massive panel upgrade last year was to make use of the in-flight SkySight overlay for wave conditions.
Yesterday was the first opportunity I had to make use of it.  While there are tons of wave days here in Virginia, circumstances prevented me from exploiting them until yesterday.
Here is the profile I made for wave flying:
On the task mode, there are several pages, each labeled "SkySight Wave FLXXX" where XXX is the flight level.  Then I went into LXSim to set up the SkySight weather preferences for that page, lining up with the same altitude forecast:

LX9070-FL070.jpg
I brought along a little MiFi hotspot and uploaded the new profile that morning.

The wave for Saturday was "OK", but the results of the flight computer + SkySight were pretty spectacular!
Saturday was an overcast sky in the early morning, clearing throughout the day and ending in a "blue wave day" later in the afternoon.  There were no cloud markers to show where the wave was, but SkySight continued to show me the way.

Here's an album of the photos showing the flight and in-flight views of the LX setup

Very nice! I need to do the same. How does it work exactly, before your flight you connect to WiFi and it automatically downloads the different Wave levels that you have set in LX Styler for each relevant screen?

If so, what is the relevance of the Setup / Graphics / Weather / Forecast screen? In that screen you can only specify one wave vertical velocity altitude.

Yes, all of the relevant SkySight forecast picture files seem to get downloaded automatically, once the LXNav sees my MiFi hotspot.

There are two ways of viewing the SkySight pages in flight.
  1. Configure this page to have a specific SkySight view:
    1. Go to a page with a map.
    2. Touch a button.  Press the  "Advanced >". button.
    3. Touch the "Map" button
    4. Make sure that "[ ] Use only for current page" is checked.
    5. Click the "Advanced" button
    6. Move selector knob to "Weather"
    7. Ensure that "Skysight" is checked
    8. Set Layer to "Vertical Velocity 2km/7kft" or whatever your metric system equivalent is.
    9. Click close
    10. click close
    11. click close
  2. Set up multiple pages in LXStyler; one for each flight level you think you're going to be finding wave lift.
    1. Each one of those pages must have a label for the intended flight level.
    2. Do steps 1.1 through 1.11 for all of the different pages for all of the different flight levels
    3. Get it all squared away with LXStyler and LXSim in the comfort of your home.
    4. Save it as a new profile
    5. Upload that profile to your LXNav when you start your flying day.
You could do just option 1, but when you're flying, and you've climbed to the next altitude that SkySight has forecasts for, you will have to follow all 11 of those steps to change the skysight forecast.  That's a lot of heads-down time; who knows how many Bonanzas zoomed by you while you were  looking at the flight computer while flying?!

Or, while stuck at home, watching a TV show that your wife wants to see, (but you don't care about) you  can pull out the laptop and configure those 7 screens to have a different flight level. When it comes time to fly, just hit the down arrow on the joystick to get to the appropriate altitude page.  Think the lift might be better ahead if you climb another 3000 feet? Just click the joystick button a few times to get to the right altitude?  Sucks up there? Click the joystick arrow button a few more times to get back to the level you're at now.

Pro tip: If you mess up step 1.4, you're going to have a really long time to consider how many pages you have to redo, while you're fixing your mess.

There is a third way too, at least with the flight stick. By pressing
the menu button on the stick and selecting "Weather" from the menu, you
can choose which weather layer to show.

It's quiet fast, and you don't have to make a ton of different pages for
all the weather maps you might want.

Thanks! That's an option I haven't considered.
You know, I have a hard time figuring out all of the buttons on the joystick.  I used to have an LX8080 before this, and it didn't have a joystick.  In times of stress, I revert to the dials and knobs on the display.

LXSim has keyboard shortcuts to simulate the knobs and buttons on the display. (Section 3.2.2 on the LXSim user manual) However, there are no keyboard shortcuts to simulate the LXNav remote stick.  I'm somewhat novice-level for knowing what buttons to press on the remote stick. :)

Same here, I tried to find the functionality on LXSim but was unsuccessful.

Perhaps the Menu button on the stick could bring up a picture with the buttons labeled? Then you would at least get the 2nd and 3rd button presses correctly.

Perhaps I am missing something simple. Please help me understand:

I only connect LXNAV to my cellphone while on the ground. I want to upload all relevant weather forecasts before takeoff. Then it would be easy to select different weather products in flight.

It seems that LXNAV only downloads forecasts for the weather products that are configured on maps. If I want ten different Skysight forecast products, I have to configure ten different maps.

Is there a way to configure selected weather products to force LXNAV to download and store these forecasts?

Thank you,

Marc Arnold, Boulder

The only way to force the device to download a chart preflight is to have it configured on a screen preflight.
If you have 4G in flight, which you'd probably be surprised how often you do if you mount your phone above the canopy rail ("MiFi" devices don't seem to work as well, they don't roam as aggressively), you can change any chart and download it on the spot.

Actually, even if it's not in the manual, there seems to be keyboard
shortcuts for at least some of the stick buttons. Here's what I've found:
L - Green button
J - Red Button
7 - Blue button, mode left
9 - mode right
U,O - left, right
8,K - up, down

Haven't found any keys for Fn, speed-to-fly and PTT buttons, but those
are not possible to configure to any function in the LXSim anyway.

And a correction to my last post, it's the green button you want to
press to bring up the menu where you can selet weather.

Hello, is any way to setup some symbol or navbox on the screen to tell me that  my daily Skysight forecast was downloaded successfully to my 9070 ? Without digging through pages searching for cache status. Thank you.

Rather than label each of the pages, just add the Weather Info Nav box on your page.
Then not only will it tell you which specific weather layer you are seeing, but it will tell you the time of the weather as well.
