I was at the Minden Nationals last week and my Lx9000 did this twice. This has never happened before and I got the glider in early 2016 brand new.
The first time this happened was in the start thermal prior to the start for the day. I was thermaling, looked at the screen and it was black. The V8 vario was still going which I found strange. I waited for probably 5+ minutes until I was at the top of the thermal and then decided to try and hold down the power button on the Lx9000. After about 5-10 seconds the start up screens flashed and it went through normal startup procedure and fortunately the task was still loaded.
The 2nd time this happened was 1 day later while on the ground and entering the task for the day. It just went black again. I turned of the main battery switch, waited and it came back on when I re-powered it up.
I contacted LXNav and they said to disable the HGL maps because it may be short of memory.....??? That seemed a bit odd, because I haven't changed anything relative to map settings or maps being used in the last 3+ years.
I am skeptical of the reliability on the Lx9000 right now, and suspect it is something to do with a recent update. I've experienced too many times in the last couple of years with updates, changes that LX insist don't happen. I am really disappointed because generally I love flying with the LX9000 but my experience in Minden made me realize how reliant I am on the unit for basically everything relative to navigation, airports, tasks, etc.
if anyone else experiences the black screen, please let's urge LXNav to dig into this more and introduce a fix.
