I bought a used LX9070 with a V8 and updated the firmware on both to 9.52 (the pic is before the update).

The sensor box firmware stayed the same and my question is; by sensor box, are they talking about an external separate box that I don’t have or is it an “box” integrated in the V8? The V8 has the sensors for AHRS etc built in, in my understanding .

The AHRS license was already purchased but in the menus it says it’s disconnected. Any input is appreciated.

Hi,

The V8 has 2 processors inside, the sensor box processor, and the display processor.  There are 2 firmware files inside the V8 firmware update "zip" file.  One of the units (the display, I think) can be updated by saving the V8 firmware file from the LXNAV website onto a microSD card and installing it into the V8.  The other process can only be updated by the LX90x0.  Unzip the V8 firmware file on a PC and extract the 2 firmware files.  Copy them both onto the LX90x0's SD memory card.  Then, on the LX90x0, go to Setup, Password, and enter password 89891. Then select the V8 firmware file.  It will update the V8 sensor box over the RS485 cable.  When done, reboot the system.  If you don't reboot, the V8 won't show the current firmware correctly.

There shouldn't be any issue with the AHRS. Firmware updates can't affect the AHRS Enable.

The process is much simpler with Wi-Fi connection but still a bit confusing. It will guide you to move the SD card from the LX9070 to the V8. You then need to select update on the V8 unit before proceeding with the LX9070 update. Make sure the sensor box is also selected.
The V8 sensor box is attached to the back of the display. You can see the photo in the LX9070 manual.
