Like others on this forum, I struggle to manage SkySight downloads.  I intermittently see good forecast data before takeoff, only to lose it in flight.

At the risk of over simplifying what may be a deceptively complicated problem, here is a suggestion:

1) Populate each item with a time stamp reflecting the latest successful download.

2) Provide an option to “freeze” some or all the items so they aren’t overwritten in flight.

This would give us visibility into which updates arrive before takeoff and allow us to manually “lock” them for peace of mind.

Yes, if anybody from lxnav is watching this list, please do this.
So many pilots have been complaining that the skysight
integration is unreliable on the lxnav instruments.

Although to be fair, with the more recent firmware versions, and using
the trick people recommend of letting it download in the morning then not
power cycling the lx before flight, I've had the weather stay available through
a lot of multi-hour flights this spring, and I actually can't remember the last
time the skysight maps stopped working in flight.

The beta version of XCSoar that has skysight integration has a good implementation.  You select which layers are of interest to cache. It gives a percentage for each of those layers.   So you have the ability to confirm that all desired layers are at 100% before disconnecting from wifi or a hotspot.  That's essentially what i think we are all asking for from LX.  Let me check if the caching is complete and also let me select the layers I want without having to create duplicate pages just to have a layer cached. I am pulling down wave data in summer unless I go turn off those layers on each page.  Not impossible to due, but not a particularly good user experience.

Totally agree, the XCSoar skysight integration is much more transparent about what it's doing. I know a lot of people have been manually installing a XCSoar APK to get the skysight integration, but recently I found a nice implementation of XCSoar+skysight on the Android play store. It is at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zinuzoid.xcsoar_jet
